I have had Ali for more years than I care to remmember ! So as of the last 5 years or so have switched to his arch rival Joe Frazier. For his size ( in a era when a fair few were taller and heavier ) he was a formidable fighter, honing his craft to suit his limitations, unbending will, implacable, how he pushed himself in the later stages of Ali 1/3 I will never know, simply would not be denied, when you think as well, he fought like a HW Henry Armstong ! honestly how many HW dont care how far you want to go back, could have kept up that pace, for that duration of time, ok Rocky was super fit, and always in great shape BUT fought at a slower pace, no arguments please. So yes Old Smoking Joe is my fav, doubt we will see his like again, thanks for the memorys.
Ali’s always been my favourite but I enjoy watching Joe Louis more than any other heavyweight. Seems a contradiction!
I'd probably say George Foreman. I met him when he was an announcer. Great guy. Looking back, I have to say I was most happy when he won big fights and I actually got bummed out when he lost. That doesn't really happen with other fighters. I was a young teen when he retired the first time, and for years I read magazines where people wondered when or if he'd ever return. When he fought Guido Trane on ESPN, it was like a huge deal for me. Seems funny to say, now. But I couldn't believe I was actually seeing him fight again. I've always liked Big George. Some fighters you like a lot, then you don't. I've liked George for more than four decades. So he'd be the one.
Excellent footwork, too. I'm a big fan of the way he walks around the ring. In fact, I think the best way to describe the manner in which he walks the Earth would be "like a God."
Used to be Ali but I’d have to put him at number 2 now behind Marciano. Foreman and Archie in the next slots
