Some rule changes are upon us, following this year's Olympics. The AIBA has voted to change several rules, although two of the really big ones, headgear and jerseys, will remain. Here it is: New competition rules, which come into effect following the 2008 Olympic Games, include the introduction of three rounds of three minutes for elite men (19-34 years of age), four rounds of two minutes for elite women (19-34 years of age), four rounds of two minutes for Youth Boys (17-18 years of age), three rounds of two minutes for Youth Girls (17-18 years of age), three rounds of two minutes for Junior Boys (15-16 years of age) and three rounds of one and a half minutes for Junior Girls (15-16 years of age).
4x3 would have been beter, as it's more chance for me to wear my opponents down with my stamina, but 3x3s is a step in the right direction. It used to be like that. Do you know why they changed it back?
Wait.. Will the headgear stay or will it go away? My trainer told me that he heard that they will loose the headgear after the Olympics. He's kinda old and doesn't hear **** that right these days so he might be wrong
Hmm. I also think 4x3mins would be better, but 3x3mins is much better than 4x2mins. I hope the headgear stays. As stated many times before it doesn't take away much from the punch, but my concern is clinches.
Headgear and jerseys stay. They were considering getting rid of them but decided to keep them. I'd rather see 4x2s for all fights 5x2s for championship bouts. I'd also like it if they didn't take my weight class away. Separating the 18 and 19 year olds for the girls is pointless. Most women are fully developed by 16-17.
