After having suffered 5 defeats in a row for the first (and only) time in my career, I managed to stop this losing streak by scoring my greatest win.

    Who am I?

Yep... that was the one I had in mind! After 5 straight losses he shocked everybody by beating SRR - easily his finest hour.

Damn I was thinking it could be someone who beat SRR but didn't think about Tiger Jones!

I just happened to be reviewing Robby's record over the last couple of days, while participating in the thread about whether anybody will overtake him in the future. Cross referencing paid off on BoxRec, where the five red boxes beside Ralph's name leading up to SRR stood out like Christmas ornaments. (For all the failings, flaws and errors it contains, BoxRec's graphics and cross reference feature are a tremendous convenience.) Still, I used my Ring Record book to double check the record of Jones before submitting that answer. I don't trust BoxRec THAT much! I will, however, cut them a break this time by refraining from invoking my usual nickname for them (the one Russell likes so much).

    English commentary!):

If you dont trust boxrec then you certainly shouldn't trusy RRB either!
ps You would be right on both counts. Good answer BTW.

Oh, rest assured Matt, that I'm very mindful of the flaws, omissions (nothing on the Black Murderer's Row) and excesses (such as including all of Dempsey's exhibitions) in Fleischer's record keeping as well. In this particular instance though, I felt a little more comfortable because they did not contradict one another.

BoxRec does contain some ridiculous errors though, such as recording Lyle's clean knockout of Shavers as a TKO, or listing midget 5'4" 1980s middleweight contender James "Hard Rock" Green as standing 5'11." (How the hell did THAT happen?) There's no excuse for slipshod misinformation like this. With material like detailed footage providing accurate information about participants who are alive and well, these are ridiculous goofs and gaffes which throw into question the validity of less verifiable evidence on BoxRec.

Does the man in the black trunks with yellow stripes look like he stands 5'11" to you? (Keep in mind that Frank Fletcher himself is only 5'7" tall.)

B, Yes i saw Tiger Jones a few times at Eastern Pkwy Arena live, and on
TV in 1955 when he gave Ray Robinson a sound beating....Tiger Jones was inside you all night taking whatever you could offer...Gave fans a run for their money....
