I recently had an amateur match last week in Kitchener Ontario. I'm the one in blue and at the end of the fight i was really tired. i thought i won it but it turns out the other guy got the decision. Anyways, here's the fight, any feedback would be great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYucDKcoKdU - Round 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsV_5Nr1sC8 - Round 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2khB7Rj68H4 - Final round and results.
Good stuff. Just a few points to try and help. Try and use your jab a more, if not as an offensive weapon, just to keep your range and prevent your opponent from closing the gap so easily. Also I noticed you got cornered once and he got of some shots. Try to use the ring to your advantage. You keep on your toes, but try and sidestep and move around the ring to keep out of range. You seem like you can counter pretty well, particularly with the right hand. Your reflexes also seem pretty good, and you seem to be able to read punches as you avoided quite a few. Try and work on employing a tight defensive guard aswell though, as you keep your hands low a few times and got caught with a few shots. Stay patient aswell, sometimes when you closed the gaps and were throwing combinations on the inside, you got a bit carried away and left yourself a bit open. And for the record, I thought you won aswell. I think round 1 was a bit poor on your part, but you really improved round 2 and I think that was impressive. I would give you round 3 aswell.
WOW, thnx for the advice. I'll definately try all of that, especially keeping my hands up and trying to stay patient and not getting over anxious. I felt i was on my toes a lot but i wasn't really moving well, i was honestly just bouncing up and down at times. i was actually surprised how bad my jab was this fight, usually in sparring i can do a lot better with it but whatever... Anyways i have a tournament this weekend and i'll try to keep what you said in mind. thnx for the feedback, it was really insightful.
Nice work in the second round, you really rocked his boat. I think TommyVercettiX covered all the main points to work on look foeard to seeing some more of your bouts. Kind Regards BH
No problem man. I don't think your jab was bad, but you didn't really use it, you just sort of pawed with it to find your range but didn't really use it as a weapon. You'd be surprised how much easier you can make a fight if you get your jab going. And it's normal that you perform worse with it in fights than in sparring because of the intensity of the occassion. I have to say your counter rights were very effective though. Definately look to utilise that. Let us know in the future how you get on and keep going. I'm sure a lot of people know that I'm very honest and would tell you straight if I thought you lost the fight, but honestly I thought you were very unlucky not to get the win. You should be encouraged by your performance especially as it's your first fight. :good
Tommy Vercetti gave the pointers you need. You did abandon the jab a bit and had your guard low. But for the first fight you did VERY GOOD. I dont know what the judges were looking at because you were tagging him alot in the second and final round. You deserved the W. But keep at it man you did good. Oh and it was funny how whoever was filming this was going OHH OHH! hahaha
Thnx guys, for all the support and feedback. i hope you guys enjoyed the fight and hopefully i'll do better this weekend. thnx man, amateur matches are really intense. Everytime he hit me, i just felt like getting him back good. I was pretty discouraged after the fight, it really took a lot out of me and i was gasping desperately, but i'll try my best to win the upcoming tourney. It's a novice tourney so only fighters with like max 4 fights. Hopefully my brother or friends will be able to come and i'll be able to post the fight or fights. Right now i'm at 140, i gotta be at 141 for the upcoming tourney. My weight at that fight was 145 though. HAHHHAH yea that was my older brother, family support could be pretty embarassing at times but i really enjoyed his cheers that fight.
no matter what the result be proud that you got out there and did it. I have wrestling season in a month and after that I've vowed to join a gym and try and get my amature career started. watch out I seem to stick around 140 too :bbb on another note make sure that if you're going to stay up on your toes move around. when you bounce up and down in the same spot you have to stop bouncing in order to set yourself to punch. People who bounce on their toes only get away with it when they are good boxers who move a lot.
thnx for the advice, that's true, my footwork isn't good enough to be bouncing around like that. Anyways, i had my 2nd match in St.Catharines, Ontario, and lost really bad this time. I was very disappointed with myself as it was a points stoppage. I'll post the video up soon.
as for the your first fight here's what mistakes I could point at: 1. Inside fighting is too open - you do not protect yourself at all - your head is up and hands down, you never protect your chin with shoulders though it is a must. I hope you will learn it in yur training camp and not in the ring 2. You do not move your body. It is very important if you want to throw punches from various angles and to avoid getting hit. 3. You hit that guy with your right hand i counter but the reason was that this guy always had his left hand down. Anyways you should have hit him with the right so that he sat down. Work on your right hand power because it seems that you like to use your right. Have a link to your second fight, uh?
