    Hi Everyone,
Long time browser of the forums - I've just had my first unsanctioned bout after about 8 Months of training.

I'm Blue Corner, and wearing the headgear and Shirt (I belong to a Boxing club that operates under Olympic Boxing Regulations) my Opponent (chose not to wear headgear and a shirt...unsanctioned so they let him) was heavier than me weigh in was the day before the fight and I ate my way up to 78kg while he cut his weight to come in below 81kg so the bout was fought at L.heavyweight (I'm usually middle weight)

I think the biggest thing I took out of this is that I had an initial instinct that I was losing badly from about a minute into the round...he was hitting quite hard and in my mind I was doing terrible - later on after watching the Video I noticed it wasn't that bad - and that a lot of the hits (two in round one and the second knockdown in round three) was as a result of me putting my foot through the ropes and out of the ring... I had never done that before in any sparring so I think the Ring was very different from the ones I'm used to...
Also in sparring I usually keep my punches much straighter but I think the nerves and thinking I was very much behind took me out of my rythym as I tried to wildly catch up! Ontop of all that I was suffering from the Flu so excuse the very weak inside fighting! :-( (I got yelled at by the coach for not telling him already as he said he would have pulled the fight).

Anyhow - that's about all I can think of, any critique would be great...pointers on what I did right and what I did wrong.

Thanks in advance... (and be kind! haha)

Hate guys that hold a low guard like that. Shows inexperience and lack of respect to the sport and the otther fighter. I get it if a pr does it to lure in the other guy but a amature...

i don't get it why would you chose not to wear headgear.

Also i think you should stick to fighting guys your own size even more so since your only just starting out i don't know about you but every time im sparring with someone whos heavier than me even by 5 or 10kg the power difference i feel from them punching me is massive. Bet you had a banging headache in the morning.

:think You were not terrible but as always there is things you could definitely improve on

I realise it was a small ring but you should be stepping in with the jab not just throwing it out.

Each time you threw the right hand you dropped your left especially towards the end.

You definitely should have worked the body more as your opponent looked to be breathing quite hard at the end of each round, but all in all not a bad attempt for your first fight a lot of the problems you seemed to have looked to be more an issue of experience than anything.

Firstly thank you to the people with constructive comments - it is much appreciated - I am already working on my form and pull back (so my left hand doesn't leave my cheek when I'm throwing my right!)

I honestly had no idea how much nerves sap your energy I think now I understand even more so why it's important to drill these things in until they are second nature!
Again thanks for the constructive criticism - Bumpy Knuckles maybe you can offer some advice so that next time I post up a fight it can be less scrappy and more pleasing to your eyes? ;-)

If you're part of a club that supposedly follows AIBA rules but lets you in a fight like this, you need to find a new gym. At least in the US you could pretty much have your passbook revoked for that.

Kolya: Really? Not that I need much convincing I won't be attending any more bouts that aren't sanctioned to be honest.... several things I didn't like about this... It's hard to change Gyms though...I have this odd sense of loyalty and also the people I've met at the Gym I've gotten to know

    Unsanctioned fights are a joke!

A real boxing club would never enter a fighter in that ****.

I love fighting people who keep their guard down.

I hope as I get more confident (get some head movement) and stick to basics I will do better against someone with a low guard than I did! :) It's kind of a pity though because now coach asked me if I wanna fight coming up (Sanctioned one) I said no as I feel I have much much to work on before I get in there again...

That was a good choice. Go in when you're ready and confident. Good luck man and keep working hard!
