Taylor is one of the best fighters I have ever seen. The speed and power of his punches is remarkable, great chin too. He isn't afraid to fight either, he'll fight anyone. People need to take that into account, before putting him down for two hard fought losses, that he had both those guys hurt and in trouble. Ali got his butt wooped by Frazier, and was emabarrassed. Let Taylor have a chance to come back, just like Ali did. I am a fan of Taylor. He will be champion again, and I can't wait to see it.
Sr is a more defensive minded trainer...it's only my opinion, but I think he'd be much better suited with a more offensive minded coach. Although, Sr might be able to get Jermain to finally relax in the ring. You might actually have something here!!:good
Someone mentioned conditioning coach and I think that may be the closest to the truth. A year or so back someone said they had seen Kelly and Jermain both do roadwork. Sparring partner perhaps? Anyhow, the poster said JT's road work was more like a jog in the park compared to Kelly's. I just wonder if JT needs someone from the outside to push his conditioning. I know what he said after the fight. I don't buy it. It looked like a conditioning problem.
So stamina wasnt an issue in Pavlik I and II? You didnt see him get dog tired against Froch? He was tired bottom line if you couldnt see that i dont know what to tell you. He has bad wind.
thats what i think it is too. There are points in the fight were he takes punches because he is too tired to return fire.
I've heard a lot of people on this forum keep mentioning and blaming Taylor's stamina. But to me, it looks more like a well executed game plan by his opponents. I think we need to start giving Pavlik and especially Froch some major credit for beating a great fighter like Taylor. If you put down Taylor for losing to Pavlik because of only stamina reasons, then people need to quit kissing Bhop's behind for beating the assumed wimp Pavlik, which Bhop couldn't even put down on the canvas once. You can't have it both ways, saying Taylor is not very good for losing to Pavlik, and then Bhop is an all time beast for beating THE SAME PAVLIK guy. Again, we need to just start giving Pavlik and Froch credit.
most fighters are tired in the late rounds when in a brutal battle, especially when fighting an opponent who utilizes pressure as a weapon. During the first fight with Kelly, yes he was over anxious and exerted too much energy trying to blow Pavlik out in the second round, but he regrouped and was a game fighter after the 3rd round of that fight. Pavlik just caught him with a really good right hand that he didn't see. In the second fight, stamina wasn't an issue...he was just content with trying to box kelly. He didn't want to stand and trade with the tough middleweight. And yes, he was tired at the end of the fight with Froch. But, the fact that Froch was closing the gap after round 9 and landing more punches was the more important variables at the end of the fight. Froch's pressure combined with his increase in punch output is what eventually put Taylor away. Every fighter who has faced Carl Froch is tired by the 12th round if they make it that far...does that mean that they all have "bad wind"? By the way, is "bad wind" a medical term?
Pavlik works the body well and that helps break stamina so there are a couple of paths here. Second fight it would seem as though Taylor was getting tired in the 11th and went to the ropes for the first time and got caught by a body shot that, according to Kelly, would have been the beginning of a stoppage had there been more time. I've only watched the Froch fight once, but it didn't appear Froch went to the body all that much. In his interview he admits he was waiting for Taylor to gas so he could get started cuz Taylor was just too fast for him at the beginning.
Ok so you didnt see the second Pavlik fight. Because he gave up round afrer due to not throwing punches. He became inactive afterwhile. He got hit big in the 11th and lost the 12 because he was to tirede and did not throw enough punches. and yes bad wind is a medical term dick.
http://www.veoh.com/browse/videos/category/sports/watch/v18326087PRC36aRS# at 11:00 Froch says he could have gone 11 rounds and Taylor couldnt that was the difference. Jeramin just dosent have the stamina he needs to figure it out or thats the end of his career.
oh my goodness...i did see the second Pavlik fight. His lack of punch output had nothing to do with his stamina. He was leary of opening up against Pavlik. He was simply trying to pick his shots wisely...he knew he couldn't match Pavlik's punch output. Again, anyone who truly knows boxing knows that when a fighter combines speed with power he sacrifices punch volume. Jermain was trying to win the fight on the quality of punches landed, not the quantity. It almost worked. Had he pulled out the 11th and 12th round, he would have beaten pavlik at 166. Pavlik's brutal work to the body was the determining factor in the last two rounds. It seems that you're truly convinced of this bad stamina theory. He's gone 12 rounds 11 times in his career. That doesn't sound like a fighter with bad stamina. Also, doesn't "bad wind" mean that someone has bad gas?
