Create a boxing organization similar to the nba, nfl etc etc with mandatory fights, open scoring and no ducking. fighters rise through the ranks through victories. no ducking, no cherry picking, no surprise decisions. in this organization pac and may would have fought years ago. having zero losses would be close to impossible, but the champions would be truly undisputed. champions would have to fight the #1 contenders. fighters would have to work their way up the ranks in a minor league of sorts before being able to fight in the tournament. fighters that make it to the tournament would have to fight their way through tournaments perhaps similar to the ncaa final four tournament. judges scores would be displayed for all to see after each round. fighters not willing to join the organization would be blacklisted as cowards. fighters like mayweather, canelo, chavez jr etc would not be able to pad their records cherry picking their fights.
in my opinion boxing right now is like if the yankees cherry picked their opponents to a perfect record and avoided playing other top teams. not to mention we wouldnt see the scores til after the 9th inning and runs would mysteriously not be counted, but judges would give a team the win based on more hits or longer homeruns.
Well… I think the rest of the world would see us as even more insular if it was like the nba or nfl. It would need to be international, not national. It would certainly be good for the sport though, imo
Completely untrue. Plenty of fights happen between top guys in a division, or in adjacent divisions. In the next fortnight alone we have an example of the former (Golovkin vs. Proksa) and the latter (Ward vs. Dawson) If anything, the baseball schedule has more mismatches built in. You gotta figure of the 162 games on the calendar, how many are against top seeds - or even wildcard contenders?
I agree. If boxing was a person it would be Leatherface- a ****ed up inbred hillbilly with a cheese doodle for a nose and a pork rind for an ear.
Most fans would like a unified body but there's not a single plan the least bit realistic for getting one. Too much money for commissions, promoters, sanctioning bodies, and of course the fighters themselves to ever want to move in that direction.
Did you read the post? There are more mismatches scheduled into the standard baseball season than we see on average in boxing. (at least at the level where it's televised) Boxing actually has its own system of parity. Prospects are fed a weak diet until they're ready to step up and stop being prospects, and then for the most part they either sink or swim. In some cases they're protected and guided to an undeserved title and hold it hostage, but let's not act like that's the majority of title reigns in the sport now or at any point. It happens more often than we like but it hasn't ever been the norm...else it wouldn't still be a big scandal when it does happen.
the mlb comparison was bad. my problem is the top fighters avoiding each other, and the terrible decisions.
