    Ok guys,

I have a great idea. Mayweather is obviously burned out and needs a break. This is understandable considering that he has been eating, sleeping, and shitting boxing non-stop since he was 3. He should sit out '08 and the following fights should occur with the last man standing earning at shot at the linear champion: Mayweather

    Cintron Vs Williams
    Cotto Vs Margarito

    The winners fight each other

    Mosley Vs Berto
    Judah Vs De La Hoya

The winners fight each other. If it ends up being De La Hoya & Mosley, it would allow for a rubber match considering that most people agree that Oscar won the rematch. If they won't fight each other again because they are now working together and are too friendly, the winner of Cintron/Williams can face the winner of Mosley/Berto and the winner of Cotto/Margarito can face the winner of Judah/De La Hoya and if the two last men standing are De La Hoya and Mosley, Mayweather can decide who he wants to fight (which will be Oscar because he brings more money). My gut feeling is that Mosley and Oscar won't be the last men standing. What do you guys think?

Mayweather needs to either retire or fight again soon. I don't see how anyone thinks that 2 years of ring rust will help him come back at an elite level.

Well he'll be only 33....barely touched over a 10 year career....probably will still keep his cardio up and train every once in a while...I think he'll be alright.

We can all dream and fantasize about how boxing should be.

Very good idea this in terms of seeing great fights , but in terms of what is right for boxing and who deservs to be involved I would leave Oscar out (been very long since he did anything at WW)

    I would have -

Williams vs. Cotto with the winner getting Mayweather , if Mayweather loses he gets a rematch , meanwhile - Cintron vs. Margarito and Mosley vs. Berto with the winners fighting each other and the winner of that getting a title shot .

The loser of Williams vs. Cotto could fight one of the other losers (whoever looks the best in defeat ?) . It would be great if all these could fight each other at some point

33 is old when you rely on speed and reflexes as much as Floyd does. Although you are probably right he would stay in shape. Like you said though he is barley touched throughout his career so I don't think that he needs a lot of time to heal or anything like that.

It wouldn't be a 2 year hiatus ---only about 1 1/2 years. This tournament can end inside of a year and the man that gets a shot at Mayweather will be announced in 1/09 and they will have 6 months to promote it. The fight would occur around 6/09. In the meantime, Floyd being the gym rat that he is will have been keeping in shape and be ready to enter into serious training camp in March or April of '09.

Maybe in the eighties it would be this way but not now with promoters competing with boxers to get in the ring themselves.

I really don't think that fighters should be allowed to promote while they are still active. It's already a huge conflict of interest that the promoter pays the judges. Nowadays as you mentioned fighters are doubling as promoters, which means at times one of the fighters is paying the judges!! Can you imagine if Kobe Bryant was paying one of the referees? It would be bad enough if Jerry Buss was paying the refs. Boxing is ****ed up and needs regulation quick!!
