So, I just got back from the fight. It took place on Vanderbilt campus, five minutes from my house. I didn't preorder tickets because I knew it would be empty, and I ended up getting scalped, 4th row ringside tickets for 1/4th face price. I can tell you now this is going to be the last major fight to take place in Nashville, though, to be fair to my city they did absolutely zero promotion: Onto the Fights: Wilder vs. Token White no hoper: I'd seen Wilder in the olympics, competely raw, only the one-two, and hoped he would have depeloped a bit. Unfortunately even if he had I didn't get to see it. Wilder started out slow, just measuring. The opponent seemed like he was an overweight kickboxer and fell in the second round to the first landed right. He was knocked out a few seconds later by a right and a connected jab. Frankly it was kind of sad. Wilder might be something in a few years, but it's a bit hard to see it now. Wish him the best though. Witherspoon vs. Adam "Swamp donkey" Richardson: I've been to about 7 or eight live fights, and other than Mormeck-Bell I, I think this was the best scrap I've ever seen from an action standpoint. Swamp Donkey was a local favorite I guess, and had the crowd on his side. He was kind of tubby but had a great motor and was a relentless pressure fighter. I had him winning the first three rounds with volume, really busting up witherspoon who couldn't keep him off with the jab. Witherspoon started to turn it in the fourth with dozens of uppercuts. I mean dozens. Though CHazz was doing better it was really a stirring back and forth. I've never seen such poor defense, but they were two tough guys. Richardson would take HUGE uppercuts and rights, not to mention dozens of clean jabs and just proceed to smile and come forward. Big balls on both guys. In, I think the 8th round, Witherspoon busted him with another huge uppercut, and then just started unloading with rights or hooks. Richardson never went down, but his legs were gone and after another vicious hookercut the ref rightly stopped it. Both men were bloody and bruised, embracing one another after an excellent scrap. One of the better heavyweight fights I've seen in a while, though again, they were very limited. Cintron vs. Ndou: Frankly, I've never liked Cintron and still don't. He looked rusty early and though he picked it up later there was never any fluidity to the way he fought. He landed a few big hooks but Ndou took them well. I didn't hear the scores but I thought Ndou took quite a few of the early rounds when Cintron did nothing. I thought the ref was biased against Ndou, and when he took a point in, I think, the 7th round Ndou started to fall apart a bit. Cintron held a ton, but it was Ndou who was constantly warned for butts, which, while true, seemed a biproduct of his style. I also thought he started to wear down, as he was the visibly smaller man. Maybe Cintron is still getting his **** down after the Margo beat down, but he looked to me like he'd regressed a bit and we'll have to see what happens in the future. Taylor- Lacy: Never liked Taylor as I always felt he was an HBO creation and stole B-hops belts, but that's for another time. I was the only one cheering for Lacy and he winked and pointed at me before the fight when I cheered his Obama shirt. Problem with Jeff, which is what it's always been, even before the Cal fight, is that he doesn't really know how to get inside, and once he gets in there doesn't really know what to do. I've felt he looks like he's fighting underwater for the last couple years and he still did tonight. He just tries to painfully muscle those punches with know fluidity, and he's got the worst rhythm for a black man I've ever seen. Taylor didn't look all that sharp, but when he threw in combination there was nother Lacy could do. There was that one Lacy round, where he scored what I thought was a knockdown, but it was almost like Taylor decided he wasn't going to fight that round anyway. The uppercuts Taylor landed were LOUD, and I was surprised Lacy never went down, but if there's one thing he can do it's take a beating, and this was only about 1/5th the level of the Cal fight. I'll be interested to see who Taylor takes on next, I still think he's a bit limited and shaky but it was a good performance and all credit to him. Closing notes: Most popular celebs were Holyfield who stood for photos with hundreds of people and Eddie George. Also don't know if anyone has seen this phenomena at other fights but what's up with young white guys dressing up in fir like pimps at ringside? never seen that before, couldn't tell if it was ironic. Worst ringcard girls I've ever seen. Wow, this ended up long, hope somebody bothers to read it.
Skanky eighteen year olds who were two months pregnant. And when I say eighteen I mean it in the worst possible way. Kinda like what you'd imagine sarah Palin's daugters to look like, yech. Evetybody was goofing on them. Get us some real strippers!
Yeah, he seems like a good guy. I also wonder if he's ever recovered from his shoulder problem, half the time it seemed like he couldn't even hold the arm high and could only sling about one hook with juice per round, though people say it was Cal who ruined him I think it was also his just being overrated, and that shoulder problem.
LoL. This fight couldn't sell out at a university, sad. You're so lucky you got those seats. lol, you were the only Lacy fan in there.
That knockdown round gave the fight a little bit of drama, and to be honest there were quite a few moments where I thought Taylor looked a bit shaky. It wasn't all that boring, and people were pretty into it. I don't think Lacy ever had an uppercut, he is just so limited and slow. Like I said, no rhythm or flow or creativity. tough guy, just very limited, and not even a huge puncher anymore makes for a tough go at the top level
Well, to be fair it's a 12,000 seat basketball stadium so no chance it could sell out, but especially since there was NO advertisement I felt very confident I could score good tickets.:yep:yep
Oh. Then yeah, I see why it didnt sell out. & I agree, that fight got no advertising at all. Its a shame to see that JT used to be such a big draw & HBO's next big thing, & now he cant even get his fight advertised. I dont even wanna know what the numbers for this fight was
