My My, How the tide has turned against Machida and A. Silva.

Silva will deliver a strong performance against Sonnen and we will again forget about his boring ones.

 

I'm holding out hope Sonnen can give Silva a real fight. If anyone is going to take Silva down, Sonnen has the best chance.
I realize the odds are against him and Silva has excellent BJJ. But Chael has been so impressive in his recent wins I think his chances are decent.

Of course, he might also get KO'd in the first minute and my prediction will look stupid!

 

Silva will sub Sonnen, I think. Silva has underrated BJJ and Sonnen has awful sub defense.

 

Its not awful when Demian Maia, Jeremy Horn and Paulo Filho submitt him. I do understand what you mean its not exactly his strength. I think Sonnen has learned how to stay out of danger in someones guard from the 1st Filho fight. Breaking posture is how you submitt guys from guard but when a guy puts his head on your chest then thats actually to close. Sonnen does that alot now, smothers guys while throwing lots of light punches then at the right moments postures and lets go harder ones with more weight behind them.

 

Yeah alot of guys take Silva down and if Sonnen grabs him hes going down remember Sonnen tossed STRONG guys like Okami and Marquardt around like small children. Problems are though does he close the gap and avoid the strikes from Silva ? Can he keep Silva down, avoid the submissions, finish him and if he cant can he take him down early every single round and keep him on his back ? Its going to mighty damn difficult but id say Sonnen stands the best chance to beat Silva since Dan Henderson 2 and 1/2 years ago.

 

Fact is, Sonnen isn't a finisher, and he is going to have a very hard time not getting caught with something in a five round fight against Silva.

Machida is overrated as hell, but he's definitely better than he was last fight.

 

Yep, you cant pull the sort of **** with Silva.. So what if Sonnen can take him down? He cant finish. The problem with a lot of wrestlers today is they have great takedowns but garbage gnp. Sonnen, Kos and Shields are all examples.

All Silva needs to do is land a jab to get the momentum going in his favor, and he can finish a fight in a flash.. Sonnen? He's going to have to implement some grueling wrestling game which includes body positioning and arm punches for five rounds, hoping to eek out a decision..

 

Silva is still up there with anyone else in terms of ability, it's just that his behaviour has been abysmal inside the cage. However, if White stopped serving him up middleweights that he can toy with, he won't be able to act like such a ****, he'll have to fight to his maximum or get KTFO. That's why I cannot understand the decision to make him fight Sonnen - it's another mismatch. He should be forcing Silva up to lhw, now that Machida is no longer the champion Silva can go for the belt. Rua vs Silva would be the best fight in the history of the UFC.

Machida may not be the invincible, super-elusive fighter we thought he was going to be, but he is still a brilliant brilliant fighter. I think he destroys anyone else in the lhw division right now, and I wouldn't even rule him out of a win over Rua in a 3rd fight. He got caught cold with clean strikes in the rematch, but that didn't happen in the 1st and it may not happen in another fight. After a couple of wins to get his confidence back, I bet Machida is raring to go for Rua again.

 

Give Vitor Belfort his shot and lets see how the axe murderer does. Those two are the hardest fights for Silva IMO

 

I don't think Wanderlei would be that hard of a fight. Anderson likes counter punching and Wanderlei is wild and aggressive as hell. His striking technique is well below Anderson's.

 

Absolute prime Wanderlei would have given Silva hell. The current version not so much. Belfort is the only mw who could even test Silva.
