Hey man, that's not very nice. You're missing the point. It doesn't matter if the kid's a star or not. He's doing a service by teaching. Jeez.
No, I am proud and pleased to be able to work with such great young men and women. You like so many narrow minded people miss the entire point of why I and people like me do what we do. Also, you call him obese which is not true. He is a naturally large young man. He has at the most 50 pounds body fat on a massive frame. He has yet to grow into his adult stature. He would be slim at 275 and he is only 14. For me that is something to get excited about. He is a hard working and decent kid.
Kid doesn't look obese but you should really get him on a dietary plan now. Cut out everything sugar based. Least non natural. Make him swim instead of road work. Keep the strain off his bones and joints. Build up his endurance at same time.
He has great numbers, but get his diet right ASAP. Just buy looking at him you can tell that he is eating a horrible western diet that his body is rejecting, i.e., high on the carbs (sugar), meats (feed lot beef), and processed foods and low on the meats (fish/chicken), veggies, fruits, water (plain teas), and beans/legumes. He needs an immediate intervention. Also, that is a hell of a "spurt" to be that big, that young. Seeing him with the jump rope, at his size he probably shouldn't even skip or run with all that extra weight, only swim. Cutting his weight now will be critical to avoid joint issues later. Good luck on getting the kid right, but no matter how it turns out? Kudos to you for teaching the sport to the next generation! Boxing is a love that he can turn to throughout life.
Man you are following my dream. I hope to one day be able to do what you do! :good Don't let the small minded folks get to you! :bart (I know they don't.)
Kids are getting fat all over the globe. Boxing is probably the only thing that will save this kid from Type 2 diabetes. I don't know how it happened so fast. I'm 33 and when I was a kid there was maybe 1 fat kid in each class. Last week I went to see my niece's school play, and I swear that at least a quarter of the class was overweight. Time to start recall the Luddites. Throw their computers, iPhones and iPod ot the window and put make them play outside. Something's got to give.
Farm subsidies, two income families (Mom not cooking diner, but shoveling fast food and soft drinks down their gullets like an over worked Dad would.), the rise of cheap (corn) carbs, the feminizing of society, electronic culture, and the decline of physical education/activity.
You would have to see him in person. At 275 he would be I would guess at around 10% body fat. 250 would be a better weight but he will look massive but slim at 275. I am 6' 2" and he has a 6" reach on me. He has been in the gym everyday it has been open for the last 4 weeks.
