Like you said, the spitefulness in that question is not disguised very well - which of course is my intention, as I like many others am not too impressed with their (the Mayweathers) shameless accusations towards another fighter, all in an attempt to drag his name through the mud, and gain a psychological advantage going in to the fight.

yea, well welcome to boxing! jeff is actually a pretty cool guy. honestly, i havent followed too much of all this because it bores me to tears. but wait for the interview. it will have some pretty good questions that you might get a kick out of. there will be quite a bit of smartass mixed in

Okay, here goes:

What can you say about contradictory statements from Floyd Jr himself? He has spun his seeming cherrypicking of opponents via money comes first slogans and the like, and how legacy don't pay the bills. Now that the BWAA awarded the historic fighter of the decade to Manny Pacquiao he and his father seemed to really get affected so much, that he has suggested retiring and Sr. has ranted on the BWAA for this.

What about the tongue in cheek ruse to clean up the sport?

Compartió vida con el escritor Jean Cocteau, una de las plumas más celebradas en la época, pero para entonces ya había probado, con los puños y una extraordinaria habilidad en los cuadriláteros de Estados Unidos y Europa, que él era el mejor entre los pesos gallo del mundo. De "Panamá Al" Brown, como se le ocurrió a alguien nombrarlo un día, la mayoría de los panameños sabe muy poco. Han transcurrido 108 años, desde su nacimiento acaecido el 5 de julio de 1902. Fue bautizado en una iglesia de Colón, su ciudad natal, como Alfonso Teófilo Brown, y 27 años más tarde se "convirtió" en el primer campeón que latinoamérica entregó al resto del mundo. De un estrecho cuarto de inquilinato, donde pasó su infancia y parte de su juventud, ascendió a la gloria, y como tantos otros en su profesión, al final de sus días conoció la soledad y el abandono.

Hijo de un esclavo liberado de Tennessee empleado en las obras del Canal, Teófilo Al Brown, otro de sus varios patronímicos, deslumbró al público norteamericano y europeo dentro y fuera del tinglado, por casi veinte años. Antes, el 1 de diciembre de 1922, y apenas dos años después de haberse estrenado como boxeador profesional, se había coronado como Campeón Mosca de Panamá. En 1923 marchó hacia Harlem, pero en Estados Unidos corrían tiempos difíciles para los púgiles de piel oscura. Finalmente, se radicó en Francia

A su sabiduría y esmerada técnica se les unían unas características físicas poco comunes para un pugilista. Su estatura estaba por encima de los 6 pies y sus brazos amenazaban con alcanzarle las rodillas. Fuera del ring, era uno de los hombres mejor vestidos en París en los años de la década de 1930. Se dice que cambiaba de traje 6 veces al día. Pero de lo que no hay dudas es que sus camisas eran enviadas a Londres para lavado y planchado, y devueltas a París, ciudad cuyas noches él abrazó como a ningún contrincante en el enlonado.

Entre artistas, mujeres e intelectuales franceses y de otras latitudes, así como una extensa cuadra de finos alazanes, este afropanameño espigado despachó una fortuna que logró acumular en las 10 defensas que hizo de su título mundial en algo más de 5 años de reinado, además de 25 lizas de campeonato mundiales. En total, libró más de 223 combates en toda su carrera, una cantidad exagerada, máxime en aquellos tiempos primarios del desarrollo del boxeo. En varias ocasiones fue obligado a celebrar 3 combates en una misma semana. En junio del año 1930 peleó 8 veces. Con todo, bebía Champagne entre asaltos. Fue un ser realmente excepcional; era una "maravilla de ébano".

De "Panamá Al" Brown se ha escrito mucho, más, ello ha acontecido sobre todo en la literatura del boxeo fuera de nuestro país. Quizás ha sido el célebre pintor y escritor francés Eduardo Arroyo quien con mayor acuciosidad ha indagado y compartido las proezas de Alfonso, tanto como sus desventuras en el ocaso de su carrera y su vida. No obstante, los panameños y panameñas tenemos por estos días, con ocasión de conmemorarse otro año de su nacimiento, una excelente oportunidad para volver nuestras miradas, aunque sea por un instante, para recuperar la memoria de un destacado compatriota que como tantos otros(as) trajo gloria a la patria. Alfonso Teófilo "Panamá Al" Brown, con sus sorprendentes cualidades físicas; una extraordinaria habilidad y la insuperable entrega a lo suyo, hace parte de la suma de motivos que nos seguirán animando a sentir amor por esta tierra de campeones, en el sentido más extenso que esta frase pueda alcanzar.
