    Why didn't he ever learn?

People make the excuse of the Vitali fight that he was "out of shape" and Vitali had come in as a late opponent, but is that really a good enough excuse considering the two knockouts he had earlier in his career when he under-estimated opponents?

It just seems bizarre for a fighter who has brutal knockout losses for taking his eye off the ball let off the hook for not being prepared for Vitali. Not really good enough, is it?

Lewis and Klit are the greatest heavies IMO.

It's crazy to think Lewis was actually bigger than the both of them and had longer reach.

...Well, according to Fight Night Champion anyway.

Against McCall and Rahman he didn't want to train, but at age 38 he wanted to but his body didn't allow him to.

It happens to a lot of HWs in their late 30's. It's not an excuse but the guy was taking it easy preparing for Johnson, only in the 2 weeks When Vitali became the opponent did he train 100%, that's not enough.

Still, it's no excuse to under-estimate an opponent after what's happened in the past.

Let me ask you this, of all the ATG HWs how many still had the hunger and dedication at 38? Not many. The guy had been hinting at retirement for a couple of years and said himself he only wanted Tyson or RJJ, which just so happened to be the two biggest $ fights.

    Basically he was cashing out.

Yeah, I guess. It just irks me he had two lessons to learn and still let his guard down for one fight. But he knew it was time to retire so fair play there.

Bull****. He always said he mad more years. He always said he was like wine. I'm not saying he was at his best, but dude was still good as ****. He landed some sick ducking punches on Vitaly. Vitaly is just the Terminator.

He was in average shape, and Vitali is only the Terminator because of Lewis.

How is being 38 a detriment to being able to train hard? There's several guys in their mid-to-late 50s at my gym who are in phenomenal shape. These guys compete in triathlons and run marathons and have low body fat and muscular physiques. A 38-year-old boxer can't train hard and show up in excellent shape for a boxing match!? Come on now!
