Ok. I am not a boxing expert and I don't think I am. But I do my homework and when I like a boxer I follow their careers and study them. So, you might agree with me or not. But this is my opinion. Cotto (and I have been saying this since the before his first fight at 154) doesn't belong at 154. Who has he beaten at 154? Yuri Foreman, even without his knee problems he never was a elite fighter. And still I didn't like the way he looked against Foreman. Mayorga was damaged goods that lasted 8 rounds against Tito and 6 against DelaHoya. Margarito, damaged goods after Pacquiao and started his career at 135 and was basically a welterweight at the end of his carreer. Still, Not sure about the stoppage. Yes, it was dangerous to MArgarito's eye to continue. But he was getting to Miguel, a lot. He did great against Floyd. But we know FLoyd isn't really a 154 pounder either Trout was 5 years than Cotto and still had to strip naked to make weight. Trout could go to 160 without problems. He was just too big for Miguel. I am very glad this fight happened. I really don't want to see what Canelo or Sergio Martinez could do to Cotto. So, What do I expect now? Either a couple of fights at 147lbs or retirement. I don't think Cotto has anything to do at 154lbs. It has been a great ride and I admire Cotto a lot. I don't want to see him hurt unnecessarily.
I tend to agree somewhat with that assessment.....he is obviously a big 147 Lber but Trout appears to be a BIG 154Lber (and so does Canelo) I think Cotto moved out of 147Lbs because of his size (big at the weight) and thought he could win a belt at 154 fairly easily (and did vs Foreman) but now after what I have seen last night I think if he continues to fight champions at this weight he will struggle. Im not sold on Canelo yet put him in with a legit 154lber and we will see what he can / cant do. He does however look fairly skilled and he is improving everytime he is out.
Ricky papi, I agree with you 110%. IMHO, after Cotto fought Pacquiao and Margarito he was damaged goods and should ahd retired. He just needs to retire now, he is healthy, young and rich. Thats just me. I really dont know how he thought he won the fight last night bro.....
