Reasoning behind my P4P Ranking: Criterias for P4P List: -How dominant - -Quality of opponents beaten recently- -Winning streak- -Longevity (Bonus points) - 1. FLOYD MAYWEATHER - Beat the at that time # 2 P4P guy in Marquez, not only beat him but dominated him in his first fight back in over a year. Didn't get much credit because of the size difference so he went and beat a legitimate Welterweight, not only a Welterweight but The Champ in Shane Mosley, and dominated him as well after getting his chin tested early. 2. MANNY PACQUIAO - Nothing wrong with his wins either. His HOT streak with the Delahoya, Hatton, Cotto TKO wins made him the P4P King. It's not so much that he fell off top of the list then simply MOSLEY over CLOTTEY in recent opponents beaten. 3. WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO - Nobody wants to put a heavyweight in their list but according to my criterias for scoring (how dominant, quality of opponents faced, win streak, longevity) he qualifies in every sense. When's the last time he even lost a round, yet alone a fight. And say what you want about his opponents but he is beating the best the heavies have to offer. And his KO over Eddie Chambers - a very good defensive fighter earns him some extra points. 4. PAUL WILLIAMS - (Quality of opponents beaten) His close win over Sergio Martinez is looking better day by day. And whether Winky Wright was past his prime/inactive or not, the way he dominated him, like he has never been before, was impressive and P.Will's size & skills had something to do with it. 5. CHAD DAWSON - Same goes for Dawson as P.Will. His win over Thomas Adamek is looking better and better by the day, considering how well Adamek is doing at Cruiser and now at Heavy. And his not only victory but dominant victory over Glen Johnson was impressive. 6. ANDRE WARD - (How dominant) Has almost dominated every opponent he faced. (Quality of opponents beaten) Was a underdog vs Kessler - the top 168 guy and not only beat him but made him look like a nobody. It was almost reminisce of a young Floyd Mayweather dominating a Veteran Champ in Genro Hernandez after only 17 fights, to win his first world title. 7. TIMOTHY BRADLEY - Is the best Jr.Welter on paper, besides Pacquio in Ring Magazine terms. Already unified titles once, and vacated one of them. His dominant win over a undefeated, young top prospect/contender in Lamont Peterson was impressive. 8. DEVON ALEXANDER - Just a notch below Bradley. Beat the same guy as Bradley to win his first world title in Junior Witter. And the fact that he didn't just win by decision but Ko'd the Iron Chinned Urango to unify the IBF/WBC earns him a few extra points on my list. 9. ANDRE BERTO - (Winning Streak) Still undefeated, and because he TKO'D Quintana and didn't just win on points gets him to # 9. 10. SERIO MARTINEZ - Had he KO'd Pavlik, he would be a lot higher on my list. And he loses some points in the (winning streak) criteria department, having just come off of a loss. But with that said, just for beating Pavlik - the Middleweight Champ gets him a entry in the Top 10.
I enjoyed your video. Wel presented, your list is a bit different, but it's refreshing, and at least you've laid out a defence. One thing - it should have started at 10 and worked its way to one. The guts goes out of the video a little bit after Wlad.
Ha, you're right. I might consider doing that in future lists although i've been told that from Wlad on down, it kept hitting the audience with suprises. I got my reasons as I posted above for my ranks & criterias. So I thought I'd get the obvious two out of the way first, in Maywather & Pacquiao or Pacquiao & Mayweather, whichever you think should be first.
A couple of ratings I would change, for example I certainly think Martinez deserves a higher rating than Berto, but not bad overall. Having Wlad in there and no JMM is certainly different though...
Respect Can you have a look post # 4, that's where the reasoning behind my ranking is. However I understand and respect the traditional way of ranking P4P fighters and yes under those rules, JMM would still be in the list, as well as B-Hop, who I am a big fan of. But neither guy has had a credible victory this year. In JMM's case, his last win was in February 2009 and he just got dominated by Floyd, granted the best fighter in the world, but dominated nonetheless. B-Hop has worn out his welcome for his inactivity. His Pavlik victory can hold him in the top 10 only for so long in my view. His tune up and the win vs RJJ aren't enough. Younger, more active champions who are dominating fights deserve to be on that list. And that's btw one of my main criterias (although not the only one) HOW DOMINANT a fighter is fight after fight. That's why Wlad got # 3 in my list, when's the last time he even lost a round, yet alone a fight. You can **** on his opponents all you want, but they're the best the division has to offer RANK WISE. Bradley & Alexander, two top 140 pounders. Undefeated, both unified belts. However i'm rethining where i put Martinez, maybe i should've put him higher up.
I agree with you about B-Hop. He's had one winning performance against a world class fighter in the last two years. Beating a nobody in Ornelas, a shot to **** Jones Jr. and being competitive (if somewhat disgusting at times) in a loss to Calzaghe only counts for so much. I'm slightly more reluctant to move JMM out of the top spot, if only because moving up two weight classes and losing to the p4p #1 is no shame. On the other hand I increasingly have the feeling that JMM is coming to the end of the line, so between that and the meaningless rematch with Diaz, (which I think is pretty unnecessary, albeit potentially quite a good fight) I'm kind of looking for proof that JMM belongs. I think the rationale on Berto is weak though. There are way too many holes in his game, and Quintana is fading. I don't think that alone is enough to catapult him into the rankings. Just my opinion, don't read too much into it, it's not a criticism.
Fair enough about Berto, and this is only a present ranking, Berto doesn't hold a strong postiion in the Top 10, even though he is # 9. In fact i'm rethinking getting him out of there and placing Adamek in there ( A Cruiserweight champ and now a heavyweight contender). As far as Bradley & Alexander, I have no regrets, they're the future of boxing along with Andre Ward, all have world titles, solid boxing skills and for the most part dominant fighters, Mayweather-esque.
Awesome video, I put dawson at #3, Pwill at #4, and wlad #5, but overall reasonable list, and great video. Thx u
Thank you. Yeah that's good, there is no right and wrong here. In the list I showcased the present and the future of boxing (Berto, Bradley, Alexander) and gave them some spotlight. I'm not a authority figure on this but I didn't pull these names out randomly or out of a hat either.
pound for pound wlad is trash..... imagine if he was a welterweight or something he would probably lose to everyone in the top 5
