Just showing a brief divide between McClellan and Monzon.
McClellan fought for 7 years. He was in 5 title fights that he won to 1 loss. Now this was not the championship but a fragmented belt equal to perhaps 1/4 of what Monzon held. He was never seen as champ and was rated #7 #2 and #1 over the last 3 years he fought.

Monzon title reign alone spanned 7 years or the equivalent of being Champ (full champ) for the entire length of McClellans career with 14 consecutive title defenses...

Now Monzon would need to fight nothing but Tijuana cab drivers for those 7 years for G to even have a case to contrast.

ABC belts always make things more complicated, ugh

Yeah it's fair points. How about Stanley Ketchel? Would you rank him above or below Monzon?

There are better people than me to answer this.

I rate Hagler 1 and Monzon 2 at MW...Ketchel is probably top 5 certainly top 10 IMO but I don’t have a complete list to refer...that is what you got me stoked to do...and I just started lol. I doubt I will have a list I want to present prior to springtime

Lol I am cool with that! He has an impressive resume here and anove. Off the top of my head I would call him 3 and SRR 4...but p4p Hagler and Monzon are 20-35 behind Greb and SRR...so hopefully I don’t make him roll over twice

Yeah that's why P4P all time is so hard. Resume is one of the most important thing in rating a fighter IMO, but do that you need a very solid knowledge, including the key contenders, and maybe even gatekeepers for every division all across history. Even then, there's some early ones where that sort of info is pretty near lost.

I get the impression Ketchell is someone that gets rated so high from seeing him in action. Trouble is the only known footage is a lacklustre performance and him fighting Johnson soon after.

Maybe if we had footage of his crazy wars some modern people would rate him higher.

His resume isn't bad, honestly I think it's a lot stronger than McClellan's, but I don't think it's an all time elite resume either.

He died young, but honestly, I don't think he had that much left in him, hr'd had a stupidly brutal career, loads of 20plus round wars.

For me, Ketchel is firmly behind Greb, Robinson, Monzon and Hagler in the all-time middleweight rankings. I think it's really marginal between those four as to who the greatest of them was at this weight.

In terms of title reigns, consistency and dominance, Hagler and Monzon stand out. In terms of level of opposition, Robinson and Greb arguably edge it.

But as long as those four are there at the top, I think it's right.
