He beat a P4P top10 fighter. That's the way to get a spot. Now he lost and lost bad. So he's out. What's the problem with that?
1 Manny Pacquiao 2 Joe Calzaghe 3 Bernard Hopkins 4 Juan Manuel Marquez 5 Israel Vazquez 6 Antonio Margarito 7 Cristian Mijares 8 Ivan Calderon 9 Rafael Marquez 10 Miguel Cotto
I love how everyone has Margo in the list.....but Paul Williams is nowhere to be found. The guy schooled Margo for the most part of the fight and then still did enough to win the 12th round and fight. His sole loss to Quintana he avenged with a 1st round Knockout and then just moved up to Middleweight and destroyed some dude. I have him above Margo currently.
why would he be????? he's only beat one guy...Margarito, and he beat Margarito before Margarito really beat anyone, and Margarito himself is only on there because he beat Cotto and to top it off, not to state the obvious but he loss to Quintana (which he of course avenged) but......do you honestly think he deserves to be on a top10 p4p list with a resume like he is?
What does it matter if he beat Margo before Margo beat Cotto???? atsch I'm not even gonna get into this really, you have Margo in the top 10....recognize that Williams beat him but since it was before Margo beat anyone of note the win doesn't matter? :rofl Good Logic :good So roy Jones's victory over a prime Hopkins doesn't count because it was before Hopkins beat Tito, Hoya, Tarver, Wright and Pavlik right :good Vargas beat a prime Winky Wright....but that doesn't count because it was before Winky beat Tito and Shane twice :good
Depends if you think a P4P list is a subjective list of what you consider to be the ten best fighters in the world, regardless of weight, or whether you think it is somekind of points competition. Taylor was P4P because he beat Hopkins, so Pavlik was P4P because he beat Taylor. If Lockett had produced a miracle punch against Pavlik, where in the top ten would he have slotted in?
of course thats how the rankings work.... lets say, uhhhh.....Alfonso Gomez beats, Berto, Clottey, Margarito, Mosley, and uhhhh Judah and now he's ranked 5th p4p Miguel Cotto who didn't move up in the rankings due to a win over Gomez, isn't gonna shoot up for every win Gomez makes...because he beat him before he beat Berto, Clottey etc... but if oh say, Kermit Cintron beats Gomez after he's beating all those guys, he's obviosly gonna take his Rank it's an overnight celebrity kind of thing...before MArgo-Cotto......Margo was unproven, he wasn't a name....so if you beat him, so what? but now...he is a name since he beat Cotto do the other 4 people who beat Margarito deserve p4p rankings too? no....because he hadn't accomplished anything back then i'm not saying that win is discreddited but thats just how it is...
I have Pavlik moving from 5 to 11. I overrated him a little bit, but take into consideration that this is his rating at 160, not 170. On boxrec for example, a fighter moving up from 160 to 170 would lose 12.8% of his points. Its normal that when a fighter moves up he is not as good. Also, don't judge too much off of 1 fight. Pavlik is still a good fighter. Hopkins beat the **** out of him, but that's not the be all and end all of his career. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Pac 2. Calzaghe 3. Juan Manuel Marquez 4. Mijares 5. Hopkins 6. Chris John 7. Margarito 8. Vitali Klitschko 9. Kessler 10. Vasquez 11. Pavlik 12. Rafa Marquez 13. Miguel Cotto 14. Arthur Abraham 15. Chad Dawson
Your looking at just paper stats though. I don't really want to get into it with you because we obviously both have our own opinions. I just feel after watching both guys fight, watching them fight eachother and others that Williams is the better fighter and should be ranked higher :good
How can you possibly put Vitali in the top 10 after beating Samuel Peter and no one else in 4 years, Peter was nowhere near the P4P lists.
1. Pacquiao 2. JMM 3. Joe C. 4. BHop 5. Vasquez 6. Margarito 7. Mijares 8. Calderon 9. Cotto 10. R. Marquez Kinda similar to Uppercut83's list but with JMM and Calzaghe switching places.
