:deal I base mine on the following criteria in no particular order: -Accomplishments -Who have they beaten? -Durability (What fighters if any can beat them?) :deal #1 - Floyd Mayweather Jr. - THE UNDISPUTED Undefeated Welterweight Champion of the World. Champion in 5 different weight classes, simply put 1 of the best ever. #2 - Manny Pacquiao - Wins over 2 ATG's Barrera and Morales TWICE, if he beats Marquez, he'll have beaten perhaps the 3 best featherweight mexican fighters of the past 10 years..not to mention a knockout win over a very good fighter Oscar Larios. Not too many people can mess with him right now at the peak of his career, we'll find out more after he tangles with Marquez. Very high durability for this strong aggressive young southpaw.. #3 - Bernard Hopkins - THE UNDISPUTED Light Heavyweight Champion of the World. Extremly High durability for this man who proves age doesnt matter when youve got the brains and toughness ..One of the greatest middleweight champions of all time and current undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world. Recently decisioned a very good fighter Winky Wright. Hopefully a fight with Joe Calzaghe can be put up . #4 - Kelly Pavlik - THE UNDISPUTED Undefeated Middleweight Champion of the World. Holds convincing knockout wins over the powerful Edison Miranda and the former middleweight world champion Jermain Taylor. Has lapses in defense but boy does he make up for it with his exciting offense. A very tough fighter to beat right now, with a sense that this is his time. #5 - Miguel Cotto - Undefeated WBA Welterweight Champion. The man everyone wants to see fight Floyd Mayweather ranks this high for the quality of his past 2 wins over 1 very very good and highly skilled fighter Zab Judah and 1 of the greatest fighters of all time the great Shane Mosley. Only 27 yrs old and holds many solid wins over quite a few good fighters including Paulie Malignaggi. Makes up for lapses in defense with his tremendous power. Lately he has become more accurate and gotten better with his timing. We will see what the future holds for this Puerto Rican Star. #6 - Joe Calzaghe - THE UNDISPUTED Undefeated Super Middleweight Champion of the World. EXTREMLY active southpaw fighter with a very good defense. Last win was a solid one over a very good fighter Mikkel Kessler. Hopefully can cash in for a showdown with Bernard Hopkins. Difficult fight to pick the winner, more than likely it would be a boring fight, but should be done none the less for the importance and historical significance of it. Very very high durability, hard to see this man getting knocked out when hes at his best. #7 - Juan Manuel Marquez - WBC Super Featherweight Champion. High Durability for this tough skilled mexican fighter. Wins over Barrera and Rocky Juarez. Moves up on the list if he beats Pacquiao. #8 - Juan Diaz - Undefeated WBA, IBF, WBO Lightweight Champion of the World. Underrated defense and a tremendous will to win. The skys the limit for this exciting champion. Only thing he needs is another win over a very good fighter. #9 - Israel Vasquez - WBC Super Bantamweight Champion of the World. The #1 Fighter at 122 Pounds. Recently TKOd the great Rafael Marquez. Will move up or down depending on the outcome of his third fight with the powerful Rafael Marquez. #10 - Joan Guzman - Undefeated WBOSuper featherweight Champion of the World. Amazing natural skills when he gets in that ring. One of the most gifted fighters ever. EXTREMLY high durability for this gifted fighter. Beat That.. :bbb Note: If any changes were to be made, the only one would be Calzaghe moving up 1 or 2 spots in front of either just Cotto or both Cotto and Pavlik, with Pavlik and Cotto moving down 1 spot with Pavlik still above Cotto.
Hopkins is too high -- he can't beat that many people in his own weightclass right now. Pavlik is too high -- his results are great, but he, in my opinion, could creep in at 10 or 9 at the most. Calzaghe too low -- consider that he could, in all probability, unify the titles in one weightclass higher than he currently is in. He's also defended his titles for a decade, is undefeated, and defeats his opponents soundly without controversy. Cotto is about right. Baby Bull might be a tad high, though I love him.
Answer: Who else at light heavyweight can really beat him?...He is ageless and has accomplished so much. Ranks this high for the quality of his last 2 wins and the fact that he is the UNDISPUTED LHW champ. Answer: Reason he is above Cotto is because Cotto is not undisputed and Pavlik is. 9 or 10 for the UNDISPUTED MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMP? Cmon lol.. Answer: Has not beaten anybody of note besides Kessler and Lacy who has gone on to do just about nothing since then... He moves up if he gets by Hopkins, which I dont think he will, Hopkins always finds a way to win or have a fight be very close, but he has youth on his side. Hopkins is very sneaky though. I agree with you he is a very durable fighter though.. Ok. Answer: Should be considered the #1 Lightweight in the world, like I said underrated skills in my opinion, and I wouldnt take many fighters against him at this point. Hes a man on a mission..
I think hes a very very very good fighter but accomplishments are important to me and he hasnt beaten anybody of note besides Kessler and Lacy. I forgot he beat Eubank but that was so long ago. I've decidede to add a "note" at the end of my P4P thanks to the last 2 people who posted replies.
Ok mayweather is 1 but he is not undisputed welterweight champ he is a titilist Why is pavlik above joe cal ? You said on achivements well surely 21 title defences is better then someone who hasn't made his 1st title defence :yep Bhop is not undisputed light heavy champ atsch Why is cotto above joe c ?:think He was never the man at 140 and he isnt the man at 147, although he is very good and one of my fav fighters.
Yes he is. He beat Baldomir who beat Judah who was undisputed. Quality of opponents. Taylor is very very good, so is Miranda. At the time that meant more to me than Lacy and Kessler. But I had forgot he beat Eubank long ago, so I may revise my list. The number of defenses doesnt mean much if the quality of opposition isnt up to par. Yes he is he beat Tarver. Im considering moving Calzaghe up 1 or 2 spots. But at the time I put him there for his quality of wins. Shane Mosley counts for a lot in my opinion. He beat Judah and Mosley, at the time of making my p4p that sounded like enough to warrant that high of a spot.
He ranks this high for 1, his durability, and 2, his accomplishments. He is one of the greatest middleweight champions of all time with wins over 2 all time great fighters. He lost 2 CLOSE decisions to Jermain Taylor but he moved up and beat THE Light heavyweight champion Tarver, some people didnt give him a chance if you recall. He also beat Winky Wright beating the undisputed light heavyweight champ and then winky wright is enough for me along with his past credentials...
In the current rankings, how would you rank Winky Wright at the weight he fought Hopkins? Also rank, if you would, Tarver at LHW and Trinidad at Middleweight (at the time he fought Hopkins). Lastly, please rank Kessler at 168.
I believe I've located the problem we have with one another -- you massively underrate Mikkel Kessler, saying as much that Jermain Taylor and Edison Miranda (!) are better fighters. Sir, please don't take offense, but do you often watch boxing matches while blindfolded?
Where does this misconception come about that Hopkins is the undisputed light heavyweight champion? He beat Tarver who split fights with loss ***** Johnson He beat a shot to pieces RJJ who never actually won the lineal title Hopkins is merely an entity in a division that has no true champion...if anyones champ is Erdei whether we like it or not if you consider George Foreman champ in the mid 90s. i shouldn't really say this though because in the context of the ass whooping that JC is going to give him they will use this to tear down Joe Calzaghe. As usual.
Btw its Hopkins that is about 7th not Joe Calzaghe lets not forget the old ******* is 2-2 in his last four fights...and in one of those he picked on a blown up jnr middle at light heavyweight!
P4p list are all about opinion, they cant really be argued with too much. Still Calzaghe should be higher than Pavlik...
