A draw most certainly does raise your standing if its achieved in these circumstances:

1 - you are a lightweight moving up to fight the consensus number 2 welterweight in the division

2 - and that welterweight hadn't failed to win a fight for 3 years/5 fights, when he lost on points to the greatest ww in history

3 - you are significantly disadvantaged in terms of weight, height, and reach

    4 - you win 2 rounds out of 3

5 - your opponent was a big favourite to win conclusively

You trying to tell me it wouldn't enhance Koscheck's status if he moved up and drew with Chael Sonnen at 185 or wouldn't enhance Okami's status if he moved up and drew with Rashad Evans at 205?

    Please.

Fitch won 2 of 3, but that's a discussion for another day.

No a draw doesn't raise your standing. Not into the top 10 fighters in the sport most certainly, and especially when you lose a 10-8 round in the manner he did to end that fight.

It's a status enhancer, I don't dispute that, but it can only do so much. It's akin to how highly Razor Ruddock got touted after he LOST to Tyson twice. He didn't go on to do much and thus the enormous amount of credit he got for losses was undeserved.

You can't make a reputation off non-wins IMO. Just doesn't work that way. Maybe a slight moral victory but enough to put him in the top 10 P4P?

No way my good man. :thumbsup

:huh What are you talking about??

    "Not INTO the top 10"?
    "can't MAKE A REPUTATION off non-wins"?
"enough to put him INTO the top 10"?

I don't know if you've been in a coma for the past decade or so, but BJ Penn made his reputation a LONG time ago, has been a fixture in the top 10 p4p for a LONG time, and going 1-1 with Frankie Edgar by many peoples' cards and then demolishing Matt Hughes in 20 seconds is not enough to see him relegated to nothing/nowhere to the point that he'd have to start trying to build a reputation again in order to merely come back into contention for the p4p list.

Heavens above. You'd think a guy with a Winky Wright avy would have a little more sense. :nut

LOL @ rating Edgar and Aldo over Jones at this point, especially Aldo. Featherweight is a weak division that he can barely fit into. He almost had to vacate his title in April because he wanted to quit cutting weight the night before the weighs in for UFC 129. After he's forced to move 155, I seriously doubt that he'll be in the top five of anybody's P4P list. Don't get wrong, Aldo is a very good fighter. He's just not as good as he's been advertised to be for the past couple years.

    Silva
    GSP
Edgar-Wins over Sherk, Penn, Maynard are just greater than wins over Shogun and Jackson
    Jones
Aldo-Faber domination and win over Florian keep him just above Cruz
    Cruz
    Penn
Velasquez vs Cigano Winner-would have put Dos Santos at 10, but these guys are scheduled to fight.
    Shogun
    Maynard

Jon Jones has neither the title reign nor victories against bigger guys to warrant being spoken about in a P4P sense.

That doesn't mean he is not the best 205er this side of Pluto, but P4P... no.

There are several guys at 205 that would have a shot at being ranked in the top 10 if not for one reason or another. Evans is good, but lost to Machida. Machida is good, but lost to Shogun. Jackson lost to Evans and Jones, and looked like the lesser fighter in defeating Machida.

Shogun was in most peoples' top 10 p4p when he lost to Jones. Are you supposed to just ignore that?

    Why was he?

You do understand the concept, meaning and general usage of P4P, right?

His past coupled with what should have been two wins over Machida.

    Do you follow the sport?

Wow, you made a quick response to my post before last. You need to look Shogun up on Sherdog, or something? I assure you that he is a bad ass.

I'd like to know what your standard for P4P placement is. While there is heated debate about where Jones should fall on the list, I haven't heard any respected MMA commentator claim that he doesn't belong there.

Why don't you post your top ten so that we can get idea of how it's supposed to be done?

p4p rankings are stupid and homosexual. doesnt matter since these fighters will never cross paths.
