The heart of gatti, The reflexes and defence of flloyd mayweather, The charisma and jab of muhammad ali, The power of mike tyson, The body punching of miguel cotto, The foot speed and intelligence of roy jones I would like to hear other peoples ideas... i am missing some huge names ... ray leonard, ray robinson etc
The chin of LaMotta, but i wouldnt say no to McCullough's or Gavilan's! The reflexes of Pep The left hook of Foster The punch accuracy (combos) of Robinson The right hand of Duran The jab of Holmes The head movement of Duran , or i would accept Whitaker here The hand speed of Leonard (Ray) The stamina of Ali The ferocity of Duran The ringcraft of Hopkins The footwork of Benny Leonard The power of Hearns The defence of Sweetpea Maybe the defence and reflexes could be swapped around? EDIT= The bodywork of Chavez aswell, would accept Robinson though, i think Robinson was the best offensive fighter ever.
I will offer two lists, one for current boxers, one for past boxers: Jab: Vernon Forrest/Lennox Lewis Body punch: Miguel Cotto/Roberto Duran Hook: Oscar De La Hoya/Mike Tyson Straight: ?????/Kostya Tszyu Uppercut: Antonio Margarito/????? Hand Speed: Floyd Mayweather/Ray Robinson Workrate: Joe Calzaghe/???? Defence: Floyd Mayweather/Pernell Whitaker Heart: Ricky Hatton/Arturo Gatti Chin: Ben Tackie/Jake LaMotta Power: Manny Pacquiao/Mike Tyson Ring Savvy: Joe Calzaghe/Ray Leonard Beat that!
the fury of nigel benn the power of mike tyson the body of lennox lewis the speed of floyd mayweather the chin of chris eubank the jab of larry holmes the demeanour of sonny liston the lip of mohammed ali
adding.... the defense of winky the knife edge rule bending subtleties of bhop the presence of a prime foreman the dictionary of eubank for good measure the durability of duran
I forgot about the chin of Chris Eubank, the elusiveness of Herol Graham, and the power of Julian Jackson! Eubank prior to Watson II looked like he could have been a world beater, as opposed to a WBO belt hugger - but was never the same after that, and understandably so.
Jab: Larry Holmes/Oscar De La Hoya Body punch: Julio Cesar Chavez/Miguel Cotto Hook: Mike Tyson/Felix Trinidad Straight: Tommy Hearns/Kelly Pavlik Uppercut: Salvador Sanchez/Antonio Margarito Hand Speed: Sugar Ray Leonard/Roy Jones Jr. Workrate: Jeff Fenech/Joe Calzaghe Defence: Pernell Whitaker/Floyd Mayweather Jr. Heart: Arturo Gatti/Ricky Hatton Chin: Marvin Hagler/????? Power: Julian Jackson/Manny Pacquiao Ring Savvy: Ricardo Lopez/Bernard Hopkins Charisma: Muhammed Ali/Nassem Hamed I liked your format bro.. Of a Classic with a Modern. (I tried not to put the same fighter more than once)
You must have watched a lot more boxing than me - I have only really been watching intently for about three years. Modern chin I would say Ben Tackie 29-10, well past his best these days, but decision losses to prime Tszyu, prime Mitchell, near prime Hatton, and more recently Juan Lazcano and Kendall Holt. Other candidates include James Toney and Oliver McCall, whilst not forgetting Antonio Margarito.
