Evening fellow pugilists, Recently after running I've been woken up in the night with what feels like it is going to explode. It feels like there is loads of pressure building up behind the kneecap and I have to move it. Also noticed a slight awkward feeling in my knee when I'm awake. Any ideas what it could be? I fight in 3 weeks and I don't want to stop running.
could be a number of reasons.... you have arthritis you could have an injury you could just have overworked your knee you could bad running shoes perhaps you should give the knee rest and fine alternatives to running. if you are getting your sparring in and your diet is good, the lack of running should have marginal impact on your ring performance. fyi, i was training hard and started to have shoulder pains. like yourself, i did not want to stop training and now i have a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder which has forced me to stop boxing. dont make the same mistake as me until you can find solution!
Sounds like you've overworked that knee, but more details would be nice. Is it swollen, below or above knee cap? Could be meniscus or tendon injury. I'm currently in your situation as well. I neglected my right knee and the tendon right above it has a small tear. I've had to wear a knee brace for the last couple of months and it helps for sure. Problem is I was told not to run and obviously my cardio work went down the pooper along with stamina. Have it checked out before it becomes more than a small inconvenience. You don't want to end up in surgery with long lay offs.
If your worried about any injury, the best thing to do is to get it checked out. You fight in 3 weeks? Whats going to do more damage, an injured knee, or not running for a day while you get it checked out?
There is no swelling at all. I rested Saturday and Sunday. I am going to get a knee support today and go doctors tomorrow. I have been doing some pretty big runs recently with stair sprints and I think that has put too much pressure on the knee. Will let you know how I get on at the doctors.
Sounds like patellofemoral syndrome. I don't really understand why people like to run up steps, with the angle and impact it's probably the most stressful thing you can do for your knees. Is it a rocky thing?
Ice it, thoroughly and don't run for a while. Swim if you need cardio. Won't have the same effect, but will keep you fit.
My knee was fine last night, how odd. I boshed two painkillers before I went to bed and it feels fine today. I am still going to go doctors though.
