    You've lost me.

Ward said he wants chavez, never heard anything about 175.

Great analysis and I agree with most of it. Only difference is that I gave Dawson the first two rounds. I was surprised how often Dawson was landing those counter left hooks when Ward was going to the body. I actually thought Dawson had the fight if he kept fighting like he was but Ward's aggressiveness, strong jab which he used consistently, and most importantly the overhand/right hook, which Dawson had no answer to, ended up taking Dawson out of the fight early on. I think Smogee did the right thing, there was no way Dawson was going to get back in the fight and the way his legs were shaking right before taking a knee just confirmed it.

    :good

:think Left hooks? Do you mean left hands, or right hooks? I can't remember much of what Dawson landed in the first, just remember them feeling each other out and Ward landing a few solid straight rights to the body that made the difference for me. But what you suggest makes sense, as in the second round Ward was still reaching from a bit too far on the outside. I saw him take a break from body shots until later in the fight, after Chad's jab was neutralized, his own jab was established, the left hooks were landing, and the bullying & inside work in the clinch became easier.

Ward did so many things right to eventually piece it all together.

    Good observations.

I have been a big Dawson supporter and, (even offered to take him in a avatar bet, don't believe I had any takers so I think I'm safe) I don't buy into the weight drained excuses. Ward was a step ahead of Dawson all night. It seemed like when the thought of attacking even entered Dawson's mind, Ward went out of range, and when Dawson thought he was safe Ward attacked.

I am deeply disappointed in the result but I will give Ward respect. Life goes on.

For those who agree with "most", feel free to dig up the minor disagreements so we can flesh them out.

I scored the first round for Dawson other than that I agree with everything else. I've only watched the fight once and I was drunk. When I rewatch it sober maybe I will see the first round for ward.

You neglected that Dawson's feet were stuck in mud. He couldn't even go straight back to avoid Ward's rushes.. In the Hopkins' fight, he was much more lively as he stalked and was always in position to throw. That and his reflexes were gone. Even the mistakes Ward made like running straight in with his chin up ,Chad couldn't get there. That wasn't anywhere near the best Chad Dawson in the ring last night, and it's Chad's fault.

    Chad's head movement, gone.

In the Hopkins fight, even though he wasn't landing the jab, he had it going, and it had Hopkins off balance. Ward was walking through what little he was landing quite easily. Crispness of his punches, gone. He almost looked like a shot fighter in there.

He was just a tall sitting duck in there. Completely dead at the weight.

Ward's infighting abilities were overrated. He didn't outfight Froch on the inside. He bullied Kessler(not a big SMW) and Allan Green(a journeyman) Froch held his own, so I knew Dawson would.
