I personally don't see Kell retiring and I think he's right to come back and have another go. As it stands his legacy isn't in good shape for the fighter that he is. But all hope is not lost. Lets not forget his last two opponents were elite big hitters in Golovkin and Spence. If I were Eddie Hearn the return I'd map out for Brook is a simple one and one that would greatly improve his legacy. Firstly an extended break is the way to go obviously, try and heal up both physically and mentally. On his return it's essential he comes back at 154. He's no gas tank at 147 and the cut has finally taken it's toll. His first fight back you'd obviously give him something handy, someone who can't bang too hard and one that will make him look good and give him his confidence back. Rabchenko would be a good one as he's known in the UK and likely won't trouble Kell too much. Then I'd like to see him fight the winner of Smith/Williamson who by then I believe will hold the WBO belt once Alvarez officially vacates. Send Kell over to BT, Warren would be more than happy with such a big UK fight and Kell beats either IMO. He then becomes a two weight world champion with a half decent name on his resume and the legacy somewhat enhanced. That's when you go for Amir Khan. Give Khan the 70/30 split if you have to but make him come up above 150. Khan won't be able to turn that money down, especially since he'll probably have another loss by then. The fight will make big money and I think Kell defo wins above 150. Then he can retire a two weight world champion, Porter, Smith/Willamson and Khan on the resume with plenty of money in the bank. Not too shabby a career then is it? Just my thoughts. Feel free to rip it to pieces
The only problem with that is these guys arent any good in the grand scheme of things. Even khan above 150 up at 154 isnt really that big of an achievement. Its not really enhancing his career any. I dont think the 147 is the problem because if it was...his tank would have been out way before the 8th round last night with them body shots. I think the problem was he just ran into a very good fighter last nite. His careers been totally mismanaged. Not financially but every which way apart from that from way back before hearn even got him. But i think hes been slightly overrated in recent years because his skill levels very very good. But theres more to winning these fights than skill level. Regardless...kell has to get back down to 147. Needs a couple of decent bouncebackers first. Then its back to the top ten again. With the execption of spence. I dont think any fights unwinnable for him especially if he picks off the worst of them first and tries to build up. Their 50/50,s but they always we,re anyway. Really rate brook think hes a good fighter with great skills but people have been kidding themselves on a bit the last few years regarding him. Porter was a 50/50. The rest we,re as well. I always felt him v khan was 60/40 brook at best in recent years. Last nite backed that up to me he,d have too much for khan. But this 90/10 or landslide easy knock over jobs all a bit of a fantasy for me.
Winner of William v smith. Think he beats both at 154 matter of opinion. Fight for wbo or maybe Hurd for the ibf, then Khan cash out. Brook 2 weight world champion and made good money. Good career. All ifs and buts though.
He should fight Khan and retire. Not sure he will be the same fighter after the two eye socket injuries.
Khan and then one last go at a title. Maybe Cotto at 154. That's 4 good payday in a row and hopefully there's 2 wins to finish off his career. Then again, if he beat Cotto and was WBO 154 champ; he would probably fight on
I agree with this. Next time he comes under a lot of pressure in a fight he's going to mentally panic about another injury imo. The OP suggestion of Williams-Smith winner isn't a bad one though, if it can be made. Then maybe try someone like Soro?
I genuinely have no interest in Brook vs Khan anymore, that ship has sailed. Should have happened the next fight after Brook beat Porter.
He should give Khan a deadline , and tell him and his team , look were not messing its bla bla bla date or nothing , i'm retireing or going up in weight one last big effort at the weight , because there is NO WAY khan fights him at 154 .. and that should only happen because its still the biggest payday Other than that retire or go up to 154 and fight the lower echelon , because unfortunatly for Brook they do hit harder the heavier you get , and he will probably retire on the stool again . I think the problem is up till now , he's not actually fought real good fighters , and when he has his face can't stand up to it
