Hello I recorded a video of my shaddow boxing I wanted to post should I post it. im embarrassed to post it lol.
What I like is you seem to have a really nice flow going, starting nice and slow and picking up the activity slowly into the video. Recommendation Start shadow boxing everyday if you're not already (it could be as short as 5 minutes, doing it everyday is the important part + 2+ minutes of skipping everyday)- I suggest doing it first thing in the morning or you could make an event of it and record yourself everyday so that you don't procrastinate it saying "oh it's only 5 minutes, I'll do 10 tomorrow" *Extend your hands fully when you throw your punches. At the end of your punch, there should be a 180 degree angle between your bicep and your forearm (a straight line).
Thank you I need to fully extend my jab and the cross needs to be improved also. My conditioning is not very good but I will improve that by increasing the shaddow boxing intensity Thank you
Agree with the other poster's observations about extension. I suggest doing say 2 rounds in absolute slow motion to start, concentrating on extension and getting your body (especially hips) behind your punches. Sometimes, when you're working shorter punches, you do a very good job of rotating the hip so the punch is an extension of the body motion, but other times it's just arm punching. Three things I'd work on: 1) About halfway through when you started to get a little winded, the hands started coming back low. They have to come back high every single time. Old trainer's trick is to touch your left eyebrow after ever jab, and touch your right cheek after every right ... at least until bringing them back high becomes more second nature. 2) Your chin comes up sometimes. Tuck it in. Always. (The old saying: Keep your hands up, your chin down and your ass off the canvas.) 3) You have a little rhythm thing going where your hands go up and down a bit. A novice might not notice but his coach could ... it's something an opponent could time. If he sees the hands bob up and know they're about to come down a few inches, he can throw over it. So maybe try to find a natural rhythm where you also vary things a little bit, not the same motion repeated so it can be timed. Keep working at it.
Good start, keep practicing. I agree with the suggestions to extend the arms more and keep the chin tucked - especially when letting that right hand go, the chin comes up. Learn to keep the chin down and look up (with your eyes) somewhat. This could also be due to not committing fully to/extending the right hand. If you fully extend the right hand, and and rotate the waist & shoulders, the right shoulder will come forward, parallel to your chin and your head will dip slightly left. But if you're only arm punching and not rotating your waist/shoulders, the head will remain fixed in the same position, and leave the chin easily exposed. Keep up the good work and definitely work the conditioning, since you said it needs some improvement - and it's a huge part of boxing.
Thank you and iv been skipping lots to improve the conditioning and sparring more. Iv been shaddow boxing more and watching my hands and trying to punch with the hips and fully extend the arms
In addition to extending your arms fully, you need to turn your punches over every time. Your also punching from the waist, very bad habit to start.
Thank you I will try and work on that no one taught me how to punch or how to box its self taught. I go to a boxing gym everyone does their own thing
you need to get some handspeed going. no punch should take longer than it takes your eye to blink to throw it. snap that arm out. look to make sharp quick explosive movements. not look like you are wading through a swamp. your hooks and uppercuts take an exceptionally long time to release. it needs to be immediate. also you need to loosen the tension on your fists. you are clenching your fists way too hard causing your entire arm and shoulders to stiffen up. stay loose. only tense it on impact or when blocking.
Thank you I will try that I will make another video tomorrow and try to make improvements in all aspects
Please Critique? I’ll start out by saying anyone is welcome to the sport and can improve. Your stance is okay, and for the most part you keep your chin down. Work on losing weight, stamina, speed, and extending shots, and putting leverage in them. I recommend a speed bag and a heavy bag. Slow motion is not the best way to evaluate someone, but you can improve by doing it.
