Most of my lists are up for grabs. This one certainly isn't final. Let's have some thoughts. If you're talking about a guy i've missed out alltogether, tell me where he should be on this list.

If you want a guy moved up, please explain your reasons for moving him above a couple of the guys above him.

    1 - Sam Langford
    2 - Sugar Ray Robinson
    3 - Henry Armstrong
    4 - Hary Greb
    5 - Ezzard Charles
    6 - Willie Pep
    7 - Mickey Walker
    8 - Archie Moore
    9 - Roberto Duran
    10- Bob Fitzimmons
    11- Muhammad Ali
    12- Charley Burley
    13- Benny Leonard
    14- Joe Louis
    15-Sugar Ray Leonard
    16-Sandy Saddler
    17-Joe Gans
    18-Gene Tunney
    19-Stanley Ketchel
    20-Roy Jones Junior
    21-Jimmy Wilde
    22-Carlos Monzon
    23-Pernell Whitaker
    24-Barbados Joe Walcott
    25-Tony Canzoneri
    26-Barney Ross
    27-Emile Griffith
    28-Julio Cesar Chavez
    29-Jimmy McLarnin
    30-Jack Britton
    31-Evander Hollyfield
    32-Terry McGovern
    33-Ted Kid Lewis
    34-Marvin Hagler
    35-Ruben Olivares
    36-Eder Jofre
    37-Thomas Hearns
    38-Joes Napoles
    39-Ike Williams
    40-Floyd Mayweather
    41-Billy Conn
    42-Sonny Liston
    43-Lennox Lewis
    44-Nonparallel Jack Dempsey
    45-Carlos Oritz
    46-Mysterious Billy Smith
    47-Holman Williams
    48-Alexis Arguello
    49-Salvador Sanchez
    50-Bernard Hopkins

I agonised over leaving out Kid Chocolate, Ricardo Lopez, Wilfredo Gomez, Manuel Oritz...one or two others.

All observations welcome, I want to work it up to a 100 but I found this really difficult - I guess I know less about it all than I thought

One exception though. Every time someone tells me Burley is to high, i'm moving him up a slot ;)

You think Benny's a lock for the top 10? Really?

I really shouldn't crack wise before I read the entire list.

    This is an inspired effort.

In all seriousness, where is Rocky Marciano?

Langford is too high, but should you move him down, keep him in the top ten.

I was trying to get you to move him up and over your man-crush Burley. It was all meant as a joke, and even if I were not kidding I doubt you would allow for that to happen.

This is a very good list.

    Prety good list.

I would suggest that George Dixon, Jeff Clarke and Jack Dillon should make the cut sowhere.

A good case can be made for Tommy Burns too.

    Thanks.

My top four have become freakishly interchangeable but I am happy with Langford as my #1 at this time. He seemed to be a dominant force all the way from Middle to Heavy. I'm happy that he is as "special" as anyone, ever at 160-200 making him something of a phenom, a freak. He's also competitive at HW, I believe, in an all time H2H sense, although I wouldn't expect him to beat to many ATG'S.

Inconvenient then, that he already has in Harry Wills, a lock for any top 25 HW list and appearing in some top 10's.

Marciano - I underate Marciano, currently have him at #13 as a HW, but i'm working on it. I did not consider him seriously for this list. In fact only four HW's make it, Ali, Louis, Liston and Lewis.

This is the type of thing i'm interested in. Care to place these three on the above list, or approx them (8-13 for example)? I won't hold you to anything, just interested to see.

If you make such a case i'd happily read it - but to be frank I don't see him in a top 200 at this time.

Bernard makes it in mainly on longevity. I also see him as a toughie head to head and have a personal admiration for his style. I like his get it done attitude.

Interesting though - I always thought of him as a top 40 sort of fighter in a vague sort of way. When it came to the list -- he nearly didn't make it, nearly lost out to Kid Chocolate...

I think maybe Fitzimmons, Ketchel and Jones are too high and Arguello is too low maybe Whittaker, Gans and Chavez could be higher. Otherwise it’s a good list.

Ps. Ross should be higher then Canzoneri (good to see Holman Williams on it)

Forget being higher than Canzi, Ross should be in the top 4 imo. First man to hold 3 weigtht titles at the same time.
