And yet Marciano was behind on the scorecards going into the 13th round against a 37 years old Walcott and needed a ko to win.Interesting.
Walcott was 37, Moore, according to his Mother over 40.Lastarza and Layne were moderate challengers. Marciano's best wins are over men with an average age of 36 and a half.
Alis fans are"not realistic,"but Marciano's are? Moore did not in a round against Ali who ,after the first round carried him to make his 4 th round prediction come true.Ali opened up in the 4th and floored Archie 3 times, the reports and the film itself confirm he was totally outclassed. Straws, clutching? Marciano was five feet ten inches tall.
I do not recall if I posted in this thread, but Rocky has a shot. Chuvalo gave Ali at his best ( 1966 ) a tough fight and had him urinating blood afterward. Rocky hits harder than Chuvalo, throws more punches and fights better too. Ali could be floored by good left hookers. Henry Cooper nearly had Ali out. And Banks also dropped Ali with his hook. None of these guys were Joe Frazier! Rocky's hook could drop Ali too And the rope-a-dope would not work vs a fighter like Marciano. I'd give Ali the edge, but Rocky has a chance to win too. That is unless you think Chuvalo was better or Cooper hit harder.
The scores of the Chuvalo fight were 73-65,74,63,74-62, The AP gave Chuvalo 2 rds. Banks was a fast handed banger Ali with ten fights under his belt was just 20 years old. To put it in perspective Marciano's tenth fight was against3-2-0 light heavyweight Bob Jefferson whose career resume is 4-10-0 with 7 ko losses.Ali was up without a count against Banks and immediately went on the offensive. A prime Ali would not need the rope a dope he employed at the age of 33 against a huge top end banger in Foreman. He would be sticking and moving with his jab in Rocky's face.Oh and Cooper may well have hit harder with his hook than Marciano did with his, apart from light heavyweight Harry Mathews, who of any note did Marciano ko with a left hook?

I think Chuvalo won about 4-5 rounds, not 2. The " sticking and moving " did not work here vs. a man who forced him to fight for the full three minutes, and it would not vs Marciano, who clearly hit harder than Chuvalo. This would be a tough fight for Ali, and one he might lose if we are talking about his 1970's version. Marciano KO'd many with his left hook. I find it funny you call Mathews small, who Marciano KO'd cold but do not mention the same for Banks and Cooper, who floored Ali and were also under 200 pounds.
Walcott at 37 wasn't your average 37 year old boxer though, right? This is a Walcott fresh off landing one of the nicest knockouts in boxing history over Ezzard Charles to win the belt. I wonder if there was even a better version of Walcott for Marciano to fight. Perhaps the version of Walcott that fought Louis the first time?
What you think the scorecards of the Chuvalo fight should have been is irrevelant ,the fact it it was a clear unanimous decision win for Ali who at one point allowed Chuvalo to pound away at his midriff . I called Mathews a light heavyweight which is where he is classified, for the Marciano fight he was 179lbs, just 4 lbs above the limit. Banks was 6'2" and 191.25lbs,Cooper 6'1,5" 185.5lbs Neither fought as a light heavy as Mathews predominantly did. Marcianom kod many with his left hook? Did he? Name a heavyweight of any ability who was near prime he did it to?
But boxing isn't a black and white sport. One man's prime years could be another man's past prime years. I personally think Wlad was better in his 30s than his 20s. He knew how to use his size better and could make up for his lack of stamina against the guys he fought.
