It´s a long time since I watched any Rocky fight but if I remember it right marciano never had that bob and weave style that Frazier had, that was the reason Ali missed so many punches, if marciano didn´t move his uperbody like that I think young Clay would sharpshoot him and win up on his toes all night long. Frazier in my opinion is one of the greatest heavyweight´s ever. The predator
What the **** do you mean 'outside of Ali', don't try and discredit or count out that, the fact is he beat a prime version of the greatest heavyweight off all-time, and came close to edging a trilogy when thought to be finished. The fact also remains that Walcott, Charles and Moore were shadows of their former selves when they fought Marciano, 2 of those 3 being natural light-heavyweights aswell.
I am not going to respond other than say - It was clearly Frazier that did the damage to Ali in that fight - what are you on about?
I agree, outside of Ali, Frazier beat nobody. His other claim to fame was being annihilated by big George. Other than these 2 key figures in his career there was nodody.
Other than Rocky picking on past-it legends their was nobody. At least Frazier had one outstanding win against the greatest heavy of all time in his prime, Rocky couldn't even defeat a primed version of the light-heavyweights he picked on, god knows what a prime Louis would of done to him.
Other than practically shot versions of Louis, Moore and Charles, two of whom were natural light-heavies, who did Marciano beat in a longer career with more fights? Answer - nobody.
Quarry, Bonavena and Ellis aren't nobodies. They were all top contenders for half a decade. Your favourites seem to be Tyson and Lewis. Now let's look at them. Tyson's best wins are against Spinks and Holmes. Both were aging (Holmes was 38) and came off prolonged inactivities. And Spinks didn't really do that much at heavywight anyway. Lewis best wins are against ancient versions of Holyfield and Tyson, and a close shave against Vitaly. How does their wins eclipse Frazier's?
You seem to be avoiding my question son. Marciano was never smoked inside 2 rounds or dropped some 11 (at least) times in his career. The names on Marciano's CV are better than Frazier, who is judged soley on his performances against an overated Ali.
Names? That's like giving Camacho credit for beating Leonard, or Norris. Marciano never fought anybody who hit as hard at heavyweight as Foreman. If he did, Foreman would of stopped him within 7 or 8 rounds. Styles anyway son, this isn't a comparison of chin's or who got smoked by who, the fact is Marciano never fought anybody on the level of Ali or Foreman.
You simply can't compare Lewis to Frazier. Lewis beat Rudduck, Bruno, Morrison, Mercer, McCall, Golota, Briggs, Holyfield, Botha, Tyson, Tua & Klitschko. Lewis wins are far more significant and against a higher standard of fighters.
Botha was poor shite. Guys like Ruddock, Bruno, Morrison, Mercer, McCall etc were no better contenders than guys like Bob Foster or Jerry Quarry or Jimmy Ellis. And I'm a huge Lewis fan.
Well, I answered it (I suppose you were adressing Tommy V). Let's compare Marciano's and Ali's wins then: Ali (29) vs Walcott (37) - Ali is by quite a margin the better win. Bonavena and Quarry (prime versions) vs Moore and Charles (somewhat past their primes) - Moore and Charles are better win, but not by that much. Ellis (30) vs Louis (37) - Louis is of course the much bigger name, but he was also much further removed from his prime, both by age and a long lay-off. Close call. All in all I think it looks pretty close. Marciano of course has no losses, but one have to wonder if he would have passed through Ali x 3 and Foreman x 2 (arguably past his prime for four of the fights) with a clean sheet.
What I am saying is Marciano is a similar fighter to Frazier only better in just about every area, therefore he beats Ali.
