Joe Frazier was a human punching bag in rds 13 & 14 in Manila...... Ali was in complete control.... But Ali was exhausted from the heat and fight altogether.... Ali's fatigue was the result from the whole event and the fireworks that transpired...

Joe Frazier is not the sole reason for Ali's current condtion.... "Norton, Foreman & Shavers" added to the effects, as well......... And, natural causes also play a factor there, too...

In truth, Ali should've retired for good after the third fight with Norton at Yankee Stadium in '76....

It is conceivable that Ali could have died in the last round - Ali himself says i"t was the closest thing to death"

Joe punished Ali all night the punches and pressure mounted - are you trying to say Ali was only in a state because of the heat and Joe had nothing to do with it???!!!!!

Of course Joe's punches had very much to do with Ali's state, but the opposite is also very true. All in all I would say that Ali dished out the most punishment, and therefore the fight ended as it did. Frazier's eyes was so badly swollen in his dressing room afterwards that he couldn't see anything at all. It's all in the articles from the fight.

Frazier was in too bad a shape to attend president Marco's dinner party later in the evening. Ali did attend it, but he looked like a corpse.

All that means very little if you don't have the speed to deliver these punches in an effective manner. I suspect if Ali were to ever fight Marciano, the speed difference would be significant enough to result in a
Marciano loss, dispite him being potentially the stronger puncher and having great stamina. Neither matters if you can't hit what's in front of you or you can't block what's coming your way.

I think it would turn out similar to ali vs frazier 1, but Rocky might get 3 knockdowns during the fight, joe had 2 knockdowns that was no slip!!
Anyway, i think a prime Rocky's relentless work would wear a prime ali down.

Prime Marciano would KO a young Patterson... However, I'm talkin' bout Rocco Marciano at age 33 to 34 in 1956 / '57..... I think an undefeated and well tuned Floyd Patterson MIGHT take the later staged Marciano.... Peace....:deal

I think the fight between Marciano-Ali boils down to the pressure that
Rocky would put on Ali. If Rocky fought Ali like he did in the first
Walcott fight, I think Rocky would have had problems. Rocky appeared
a little tentative in the first 6 rounds and Walcott was able to really
    work him over.

However, if Rocky fought Ali like the way Rocky fought against Ezzard Charles
and Moore, with lots of pressure and punches, then I think Rocky has a good
    chance of winning.

Incidentally, when Rocky and Ali sparred for the computer fight
video, Ali had stated that Rocky was a very hard puncher.

the one that had Just Ran threw Moorer? Marciano Still had his Power and all and would have landed Sooner Rather than Later against Paterson

I definately agree with this. But I can tell you this there is no way Cus would have put Patterson in the ring with Rocky. Cus was very careful who he put Floyd in with and Rocky would have been a definate no no

Marciano would have probably pulled a Tyson-Spinks on him. Though we must not forget that patterson had heart. Keep in mind that Liston was the most feared fighter during those days and even though Patterson's handlers urged him not to take the fight, Floyd still showed guts and fought him. He even went for a second try when he was destroyed the first time. Thats guts.

I keep reading that Ali would lose to Marciano due to the pressure that Rocky would apply to Ali. Frazier applied twice the pressure that Marciano did because he moved faster than Rocky both in hands and feet. Rocky's rythym was different than Joe's. Sort of a one -and -a -two beat was was prevalent during that time period while Joe's was a quicker more modern rythym. Rocky didn't employ a fast bob and weave approach as Frazier did. He fought out of a crouch which was effective against men of similar size but would be problematic against a fast sharpshooter like Ali, especially when you factor in Ali's considerable reach advantage and much faster reflexes. Rocky, after doing his best to avoid 5 or 6 fast punches in a row by going into his deep crouch, would find no Ali near him when he finally comes up for air. I assume we're talking about a prime Ali who moved faster than any heavyweight past or present and had a cast iron jaw to boot. Jersey Joe employed shifty movement and subtle feints but against Rocky he chose to stand and fight. Ezzard Charles pretty much did the same thing. Ali wouldn't. Not a prime Ali anyway. And a prime Ali was 3 times faster than Charles and Walcott. Rocky's best chance(Or only chance)would be by knocking out Ali. He certainly isn't going to out box him so Rocky would have to try and land a clean one to the point of the chin while taking hundreds of slashing blows all the while from long range. Ali would probably win this one going away against his much smaller and slower albeit tough as nails opponent. With all due respect to Rocky who certainly deserves it, the rules of physics as well as the ring would apply here. Ali is bigger, faster and much more mobile than the Rock who never fought the type of modern atheletic fighter that Ali was. Rocky was used to fighting men who were there to be hit. This would not be the case against Ali.

Marciano sure had to chase down Walcott, Charles and LarSarza. They were not relly going toe to toe with Marciano.

Check Rocky out on U-tube. I think he actually has better movement than Frazier. The big difference is Fraziers bobbing and weaving were somewhat repetitive, Marciano's movement was totally unpredictable and he would get incredibly low.

Marciano did everything ass backwards because of his lack of experience but that was actually one of his biggest advantages. Like you said he was unpredictable and because he never did anything textbook, fighters never could get in a rhythm against him.
