First I think we can all agree the stoppage robbed us of a great fight that was erupting.

I mean the fight ended right as it really got started

Round 1 Id say it was Zaveck, Round 2 and 3 to Berto, the 4th to Zaveck and 5 was tough I had it for Zaveck but he was taking shots near the end when he could not see

So it was close in my eyes, not sure how the second half would have played out

    Thoughts on Berto's performance

He said post fight that it was ok but not great and I agree. He moved well and jabbed well. But he found himself often stationary in front of Zaveck when he really should have used his advantages in speed and crisper punching from the outside.

Zaveck came out aggressive in the first and Berto responded well in the 2nd and 3rd. But Zaveck changed up his attack and started troubling Berto again

    Thoughts on Bertos improvements

Not really sure. I mean he did seem focused and energized and confident. But he did get hit and rather easily. His improved conditioning was a point discussed during the telecast but we really didnt get to see it. He only went 5 full rounds and then it was stopped. He was struggling and we didnt get to see the second half play out. So in that regard you cant really tell. However like always he is in another good fight and commits to his punches with bad intentions

    Thoughts on Zaveck's performance

I liked what I saw. He came out aggressive in the first. Berto gave him a different look in round 2 and 3. Then in 4 he adjsuted his attack with success and had the momentum. The fight was stopepd before we got to see Berto's response to Zavecks changes.

He had a good high guard with some good power shots. His uppercut was good along with his overhand right. He came to fight and was fun to watch.

As far as the fight went it was close but with the eye who knows what would have happened if it continued but he said he was ready for the 2nd half and was in the long haul

    What next

Berto well he called out Ortiz who is gonna lose to floyd but that wouldnt kill a rematch cause Ortiz would wanna bounce back the rematch would sell after the first fight and Ortiz would want a belt and Berto could lure him in with that

if not an Ortiz rematch then any body else interested...though i think manny and floyd destroy him

Zaveck in my eyes deserves a rematch but you know with boxing politics and everything he isnt gonna get one

He fought a great fight and was unlucky to get that cut and his corner called it off despite his desire to go on

he earned another big fight on US TV in my eyes and i hope someone picks him up

I heard the HBO team making Meldrick Taylor comparisons, I see more Zab Judah. Berto looks great for a round or two, starts to gas a little and then overcommits to shots and looks downright sloppy at times. Once he doesn't get his guy out of there in the first few rounds, he starts to fall apart.

i didnt see meldrick taylor at all

i will say berto is constantly in entertaining fights

he is athletic and gifted but doesnt use it, he gets hit a lot and gasses

but i love how he commits to his shots it creates fireworks

i think jermain taylor may be a closer comparison

No don't see the Judah comparison as Valid, Judah is much more skilled but Berto is more determined, BTW he did rally late against Estrada and he did come from behind against Collazo, winning 6 of the last 8 rounds, to get a razor thin decision.

Taylor was more skilled and no where near as easy to hurt as Berto, also Taylor at his best could hang with an elite, PBF and Pac would both kill Berto.

True, but how much of that is who he fights? Sure I like to see a KO like the Hernandez fight but who is Hernandez? In his fight with Collazo, Collazo was responsible for the drama there. Berto is exciting when he splatters someone or when he gets smacked around some. Its not him that makes the fights exciting, IMO. Hes a staller a lot of the time like against Urango.

i think he is taylor in the sense that he has these gifts athletically but doesnt improve as a boxer

he also commits big to his shots and tires like taylor

i think its closer than the meldrick comparison

maybe he is a stalelr at times but the urango fight is the only fight i can think of that he was boring

and he fights mostly guys who are tough like collazo estrada zaveck and ortiz and that shows character

he will fight a high risk low reward bout and go toe to toe

he is explosive and commits to his punches big time

im not a fan of his but i wont call him boring

Pure BS, Berto has had about 20 + televised fights for a reason, he is aggressive but flawed which makes him exciting, other than the Urango fight, he has been fun to watch. His past 4 fights since Urango have all been fun.

i was shocked at the urango fight too cause urango can bomb and he usually brings it

yes berto spoiled and held a lot but urango didnt punch the body in the clinches and seemed content to get held rather than push him off

Yeah, thats pretty much exactly what I said. Not sure why you think you;re disagreeing with me.I mentioned all of them except for the Quintana fight, probably his best performance. All of those fights went pretty much as I said they did, maybe you should read my post again.

And Berto gets air time because of who handles him.

Bertos not an exciting fighter at all. Hes fast hands and nothing more.

Also, how can you not see the Judah comparison? Both guys are frontrunners, both guys like the uppercut and both guys fall apart when they aren't in control.

I think Taylor's problems came with him not knowing how to deal with guys who walked him down or were willing to walk through his shots, he is no where near as flawed or sloppy as Berto, who is starting to look like Gatti with some of these wars he gets into.

Berto is an exciting fighter, he is almost never boring. Yeah Haymon got him the HBO fights but even before that Berto was on ESPN, Showtime and other networks early in his career. He is one of the most exciting fighters today.

I would not compare him to Judah because Judah is far more skilled and polished than Berto who is very flawed and sloppy, furthermore Berto has had rough fights in the past where he has kicked it up and pulled away. Forbes, Collazo, Quintana and Estrada all gave Berto trouble early only to have him turn the tables and pull out the win. Even against Ortiz, he was dead in the water early and nearly came back on him. Judah loves to box and hates to fight, Berto on the other hand is always looking for a KO, other than the speed and the uppercut, Berto and Judah are completely different.
