Atlas is a joke at this point. And both he and Rooney both have serious sour grapes because Mike dumped them just as he got big. They would have become very rich riding Mike's coat tails. Instead, neither one of them did much with any fighter after Mike. I certainly don't give Teddy credit for Michael Moorer's success. Michael Moorer's success is owed 100% to Manny Steward.

And, as for Tyson, he was an incredible fighter. Nothing like the pretenders around today. In his prime, he had speed, power, defense, chin, and ferocity. A marvel to watch. And a Head to Head nightmare for almost every heavyweight in history in a fantasy matchup. (I would only favor Ali, Foreman, and possibly Joe Louis in a H2H fantasy matchup, although Liston, Frazier, Dempsey, and perhaps Lennox would have a chance against Prime Tyson as well.) Based on his rather precipitous fall from grace, I agree that he is outside the top 5 heavyweights of all time. But, I believe he is still top ten all time heavyweight. Had he not embraced the party lifestyle, he could have been even greater.

It's a good thing that Rooney, Torres and Atlas weren't butthurt losers in the Tyson story. Bitter at all? I doubt it. Again, compare Tyson's rise and reign to that of the consistently top ten ranked Dempsey. Tyson's career is more impressive in all regards.

Strawman argument. Dempsey is NOT consistently ranked higher than Tyson. In fact, he is often left out of top tens these days, whether we're talking about this forum or elsewhere.

During the very late 90s/early 00's, a number of trainers were approached for the job of training Tyson.

Don Turner (Holyfields trainer) was also approached, he said, he wouldnt teach Tyson anything new, he would just revert him back to the programme set by Kevin Rooney and maybe even ask Rooney to co-train Tyson

My sentiments exactly OP, Tyson in his prime, focused and fully trained beats any man, ever.

At his best, circa 1986-88,Tyson had a superb blend of speed, aggression and power.

On the other hand though. I believe a weak-minded Tyson COULD be intimidated and broken by some of the heavy greats of the past. Ali would have Tyson crying like a baby. before the fight. Liston and Dempsey would scare the **** out of Tyson. Louis? Mike would avoid Louis and Foreman and Liston. He refused old Foreman, no way he fights young Foreman.
