Good opening post by TV, but I'm going to give it a few more matches against proven fighters before I come to any conclusions on Valero. DeMarco didn't give Valero alot to think about. DeMarco did everything imaginable to make Valero look good, in fact, by doing almost nothing.
Surely. But my line of exploration has nothing do with the quality of Valero's win. Let me ask you, Hermit; do you expect every guy who gets in the ring with Valero to be as inhibited as DeMarco was? ..... You see? We have nowhere to go with that. If we assume that is the case, Valero is well on his way to being the greatest fighter who ever lived. Nobody will so much as lift a finger to stop him.
I feel the same way. The guy did nothing from the opening bell. What I did see was that a good fighter with straight punches can hurt and control Valero. Any young Erik Morales' out there?
I don't follow the division that closely but I did see this fight. I'm just saying you have to give props to Valero for making DeMarco ineffective. Demarco is still top 10 material and Valero was fighting through adversity. It looked like a classic case of boxer vs fighter. That said, who at the weight do you want to see him match up against to answer YOUR questions. Like I say, I don't follow the division closely.
No props needed, Hermit. That isn't the point, my friend. Since you have repeated yourself I have to assume you're expecting Valero to get in the ring, time and time again, with opponents who do little but back away from him and throw a counter punch or two every 3 rounds for the rest of his career. The DeMarco fight was a perfect barometer for all things Valero. J/K. Seriously though... Funeka, Peterson, Katsidis... Each one of those guys might have enough gusto. Certainly Katsidis and Funeka. We know Marquez does, but word is Valero is probably jumping to 140 anyway.
Good analysis. I would add that the speed differential in the fight was huge. Not just with Valero's fists but his movement was far quicker. I don't think his defense is as vulnerable as some have thought. He showed excellent head movement and even threw in a shoulder roll here and there. There's a lot of upside here with Valero and maybe the best thing is he's showing progress. That's the truly scary part. He may get even better.
I still don't find his skills impressive at all. We'll see how far his tenacity and raw punching power can take him, though.
Juan M Marquez would be a good test for valero...unless JMM got older over night counterpunching and checking his chin here and there,Valero is wide open o get hit. Who is DeMarco anyways? who has he beaten? give my props to valero,he did his job...i jus dislike the guy b/c his chavez BS but he is fun to watch.
At this point I give him a B. I truly hope he's the next best thing. If not then there are the emerging young Cubans whom I'm rooting for as well.
