My theory about World Title belts Is there something to be said for the fact that the belts dont seem to mean **** to the established fighters anymore and that the belts they would normally hold and reign with are abandoned and picked up by prospects who are not far enough along into their development to be able to defend it against the guys a so called World Champion should be defending his belt against. Do you think there is any truth to that ? All i hear these days when you criticize a young World Champion for not fighting dangerous opponents he possibly should be fighting is " give him time to develop he is only young " now i always assumed when your a World Champion that kinda philosophy goes out the window and that your in tough more often not and that thats how it should be if you hold a strap. Do you remember Jimmy Jacobs saying ..........when you get to a certain level you must realize you cant go backwards?
The belts are bull**** and they always have been, I remember when WBO used to be bogus but now they are considered legit. Stupid. The great fighters know that belts are just that, belts. Greatness is acheived by beating great fighters, not by collecting green, red or whatever color waistbands.
you're probably right. belts used to mean you're the best in the world. now they are stepping stones for getting to fight the best in the world.
the problem is any one whos ever put on gloves dreams of being a world champion, no matter whos belt it is. Then the fact that no one is willing to pay 3-5 santioning fees to be considered undisputed champ. :-(
the orgs are a joke and as soon as boxers and the media realise this the belts will stop existing. events like the super 6 will stop all this **** if taken up in other weight classes. i dont even know which belts the fighters carry, only how many points they have
Co-co-sign. Belts are joke. I'm dreaming about that there is only ONE belt in each division though... Or else- there are let's say- 3 world title belts at all - light, middle and heavy- each including a few close divisions combined. Wouldn't that be something?...
