Great fight put on by both guys, when i first watched i gave it to Dawson by 2 points, when i watched it again i had the exact same score as the judges.

People were surprised at how good Glen Johnson was, myself included and i believe that's why people think it was very close, Johnson hurt Dawson more than Dawson hurt Johnson and since this is a fight people want to say that Johnson won the fight since he put more hurt on. Fact is this is boxing and we score it by rounds and Dawson won clearly, he threw more and landed more.

This fight has exposed some flaws and some strengths of Dawsons that we haven't seen before. The most notable flaw is his defence on the inside, he tries the mayweather style shoulder roll but he doesn't move with the punches/watch them closely enough so he was getting tagged by left and right hooks from the slightly unorthodox Johnson, he needs to cover up and move his head. His other problem was his straight left, he didn't have enough on it to keep Johnson from coming forward so much, often he would paw with his left to set up right hooks, he really needs to get some power and versatility into his left, i know it's not technically 'correct' but he should practice some looping shots so he is more comfortable throwing the left from any angle/position.

The major positve in this fight was Dawson proving that he has a fighters heart and a good (not great) chin. This fight didn't have to be as close as it was but Dawson wanted to make a statement and wrongly made the decision of trying to out-tough Johnson when he could of won every round by boxing and moving. Instead he slugged it out on the inside in some rounds and those were the rounds where he got hurt and lost. When he did get hurt he showed great poise and composure and recovered very quickly. People are gonna still talk **** about his chin but realistically his chin is on the same level as a Cotto or Pavlik and if he works on his inside defence there is noone who could knock him out.

I still think Dawson put on a great display and think no less of him than before the fight, if he keeps his ego in check and works hard at everything this guy is a future p4p king.

I feel for Johnson as he worked hard like he always does and it was a stirring speech afterwards but he lost the fight. Hopefully he gets a shot at one of the other belts, wins and gets some sort of closure/satisfaction on his career, if he fights Dawson again he'll lose more comprehensively and it'll be a sad way to go out.

Another plus for this fight for Dawson is that now Tarver might get the balls to get in the ring with Dawson, i found it very interesting that in Tarvers post fight interview after his very impressive win over Woods that he said 'Dawson is damaged now, let's make the fight happen tomorrow', i think that shows that Tarver was very concerned about the possibility of facing Dawson. Dawson has got to step on that midget Diaconu before that fight but fingers crossed, i think Tarver is a style match-up that will make Dawson shine.

Since when is just throwing, and apparently landing, more shots mean you win a round? Does the effectiveness of the punch not count? Does the ability of someone to block your punches not count? This wasn't Mayweather vs. Corrales where the slickness of one made the others aggression ineffective. It is a case where the slickness of one was countered by the effective, but less flashy, punching style of the other.

Yea. Very silly. Not all landed punches are EQUALLY effective. If you think Dawson's punches were as effective and punishing than Johnson's than I guess I can't argue with you as we clearly saw very very different fights. Nor does landing more punches mean you were the more effective fighter. If it did... all boxing would be amateur now wouldn't it?

And you measured something relative like the amount of 'hurt' each guy recieved did you? Glen Johnson could get shot and not get hurt/react, that doesn't mean the bullet was any less powerful or didn't hit him correctly does it now?

If Glen Johnson got shot and then still kept punching in the face of Dawson then yes, I would probably still give Johnson the round.

I wonder if you are trying to argue that Dawson's punches hurt Johnson just as much as Johnson's hurt him because I think you will have a hard time making that case. Johnson is a tough son of a ***** and if the punches landing don't stop him, or at least effectively hinder his ability to force his will on his opponent then I would say the punches were less effective. Giving Dawson credit for punches landed without effect because Johnson is tough is somewhat absurd I think. Unless of course this was the Olympics.

And this is completely ignoring the fact that it appeared Johnson was blocking and otherwise avoiding a lot of the punches thrown his way.

I disagree, you land more punches you score more points, it's impossible to judge how much punches are hurting someone unless it's very obvious like in the 3rd and 10th rounds. Dawson stayed composed and looked untouchable from the outside, if anybody can score this fight for Johnson then they've been smoking crack.
