I had Cotto winning the 11th for a 115-112 victory. I was tempted to give him 10-8 in the round were Clottey was in the corner for half of the round, but I didn't. He was blocking a lot of punches but not all of them. Those that landed hurt him. I will never understand why Cotto let him go so many times. My guess is something between the cut, afraid of getting tired, or the MArgo ghost.
How did you score round 12 for Clottey? Obvious fouls? Come on, PBF throws more elbows than Calzaghe does punches in a round and you're gonna complain about Clottey getting hit when he turns his back? Same could have been said for Floyd hitting Gatti when the ref clearly broke it up. If you dont like Cotto thats fine. Im not that big of a fan either, but dont post scores and complain about "obvious" fouls when the only thing that was obvious about them was that Clottey is a hell of an actor and embarrassed himself.
Clottey defence wouldnt have been so 'perfect' if he threw more punches. His style of defence is basic, in other words he cant usually defend and attack at the same time. Still very effective though. Cotto needs to practicse fighting on the back foot, and for the love of god learn how to clinch! Cottos feet are still not quick enough to quickly get into range and get out again, perhaps they never will be. On a more positive note, cotto showed adaptability to deal with that cut, i felt that were it not for the cut cotto would have fought in the center of the ring.
one thing too look at cotto had clottey on the ropes later in the fight and cotto hit him with a combo and backed off i was like WTF he could have scored more so easily but he chose to back off it had me mad :fireyou never know if cotto kept him there and apply more preasure maybe he could have stopped clottey
That's EXACTLY it. Last night, Cotto didn't do ANYTHING effectively until the last 3 rounds when he finally decided to be a boxer and TRULY started boxing. For the rest of the fight, he wasn't offensive enough while on his bike. If he wants to stand there and trade, then he seriously needs to learn some upper body movement. Otherwise, BOX. damn it.
This may be the best analysis of the fight I have read on here. I agree with every point of it. As far as who I think won last night I had Clottey edging it out but I probably gave him some of the rounds that you thought Cotto won by a thin margin. I am going to go back later on today and rewatch it.
cotto won a close decision there wasn't much in it, wouldn't of been shocked to see it go the other way. All said and done the right man won, if not for that gastly cut (which was horrific and obviously impared cotto's vision) then cotto would of won more convincingly imo. :good
i don't hate cotto, and please is this ad hominem? bring floyd into the discussion just because you don't agree wiht my scoring? and if you think those fouls were all drama think again. He got slammed on the canvas, punch in the back of the head, and low blowed once. If you do think that was drama and clottey was just actin then fine but it was obvious those fouls did happened whether or not clottey was really hurt
to those wondering why i have round 12 for clottey, i just call it as it is, i don't have reply on that vid but it was close and i remember scoring it for clottey. If you hear the commentators on tv just a few seconds after round 12 ended, that guy had it too for clottey and think he won that round. I'ma go watch it on reply again, especially the last 3 rounds
This a very good thread start. The cut was a major factor for me in this fight - I didn't really score it and there would need to be a rematch to decide who wins.
