I was cheering for Hughes obviously, but GSP looked phenomenal and made it not so bad. Maybe the whole "Hughes is arrogant and a dick" thing may stop now. The headlock throw was amazing, as was the finishing sequence. Chuck might just be back and could be champ again, he beat Silva up pretty bad on the feat towards the end and FINALLY showed some of his takedown ability again, that double leg at the start of the 3rd was textbook. Rough night for team quest south, Machida really impressed me, Soko may have caught "I'm a kickboxer" disease and abandoned his Judo. Great night for MMA.
No, I live in Indy, train with some UIndy wrestlers, a boxing gym, some Judo. Hughes isn't with Team Quest either if thats what you were implying.
Cool! I wrestled for 6 years and have been involved in boxing for 21 years. I did Judo for about 3 months. Wasn't implying Hughes was a team quester, but the way you wrote you statement I thought that he might be.
I thought it was an okay card...nothing too spectacular. GSP looked fantastic, which was probably the best part of the night. You can't help but appreciate complete ownage.
hahaha, you should have showed Hughes laughing after GSP lost to Serra...and Hughes inserting his foot into his mouth.
i never thought of matt hughes as an arrogant guy.. i've always thought of him as a humble dude the way he carries himself and what he says so i don't know where all of this "matt hughes is arrogant" stuff is coming from. anyways, it seems as if bjj ruled the night with all of those submissions
Heh, can't blame him for laughing. He thought this was a sure thing to get the title back without have to fight GSP again. How wrong he was!
I think karma caught up to Hughes. I've always felt like so many of his past victories came from overpowering opponents. Now, in GSP, he faces a guy more powerful than he is and you see the holes in his technique.
and what is so "evil" about overpowering opponents that big bad karma needs to smack you for revenge?
Looked like text book competitive judo from the bottom position to me, hang and pray for a stand up. As a competing judoka, I can tell you the way it is instructed for competitive purposes would make me nervous as hell if someone got on top of me without the 10 second stand ups. And really, his main training partner is Hendo who is far from a good bottom fighter as well.
