Things i see he needs to work on and work on fast 1-Throw the damn jab,he walks in doing nothing but standing there and doesnt set his punches up or stop the other fighter from setting theirs up 2-Use his legs more,he is to stationary and the harder punchers will definitely have a field day on his body which is easy to find 3-He seems to be extremely stiff with his punches and needs to loosen up He is a decent fighter, still young and has a long way to go,Paulie isn't even that good at all and Broner shower alot of flaws against him that will get him hurt against better fighter. If he focuses more on boxing and less on being flashy and clubbing i think he will become a much better fighter
I saw nothing in last nights fight that seemed special. He claims he didn't have to do anything vs Paulie, so I'll give him another chance vs a more dangerous opponent. Looked slow and predictable.
I didnt overrate Broner like some and I didnt expect the mismatch a lot did This fight didnt change my opinion of him and actually it was a good thing Paulie did better than we expected Broner now proved he can go a good 12 with a guy who has a plan and sticks to it and moves, Broner beat a veteran champion and a good fighter the kid is only 23 and it can only get better unless his lifestyle turns him into a train wreck and outside of Floyd at 147 there isnt an obvious definite guy thats out there that obviously beats him Broner didnt dazzle last night but he didnt dud either
Discussing Broner is like talkin' about David Copperfield -- distraction. Who could test him? Is he a potential ATG? Are all fans wanna chime in about...but potential opponents puts the spotlight in the wrong place. Diamond-studded grill and toadies ta brush his hair, he's a thug, a brick-wielding alley mugger, who's gonna pay the street price. Ya reap whatya sow.
I'm trying to understand the above, John, with all due respect...would you please put this into English instead of Brooklyn.
it isn't a potential opponent fans have to think about for Broner. He's a gutter snipe, a feral thug, who more than likely will wind-up with a toe tag in the street.
I'm not sold out on Broner, he acts like the whole world is at his feet, maybe a brutal KO loss will be a bucket of cold water on his head and not let him waste his career, because the tools are there, just not sure he's mentally strong enough
Thanks John, my English didn't translate into Brooklyn or vice-versa, thank you very much.:good I now understand what you meant.
i think broner is a great fighter. people dont understand that broner uses his wide stance flat footed to generate more power. hes sitting on his punches in what im saying. paulie wanted to box and move and broner wanted to cut the ring off and bang. if you think broner dont have foot work and cant use angles go back to his early fights on youtube. if he danced around he would be considered another runner, but when he fights in the pocket its owe hes flat footed and cant use his legs. kinda like floyd he walks you down and fights face to face, his legs are gone. then when he uses his legs hes running. which is i ask ? just some consistency would be nice.
From what I saw of the fight he didn't trade much when Paulie was throwing his punches, rather he just stood there and blocked them. He should in future try to a) Throw back more when his opponent is punching, if he can time it. He had the power advantage on Malinaggi so could have afforded to throw more back when Paulie was thowing his little combos and often only catching him on the arms. b) He shouldn't stand so still in front of his man because he will start taking damage against guys that can punch. But I think he will be able to make this adjustment. Also, I was a little disappointed that he wasn't more successful in walking down Paulie. Sure he had some success but from the second round on he was almost constantly advancing on Paulie but Paulie still seemed to have the room to evade him: Broner should have got him on the ropes more especially when he could walk through his power. All in all the closeness of the bout surprised me and I was a little disappointed in Broner's performance. Although it was still a good one in many ways, and Paulie didn't 'expose' Broner, I think this fight shows how Broner still has quite a bit of improving to do, but he should be able to do it as he is still young.
These are the factors you have to take into consideration in regards to last nights fight - He's 23 - He jumped two weight classes - That was probably the best fight Paulie has ever fought in his entire career Broner should drop down to 140 and take on the likes of Garcia and Matthyse
This is a good post and I happen to agree with a lot of what you said. If he stays at 147 for his next fight, I don't see any real graduation process. Because of Paulies lack of power, he was the only 147pounder that couldn't hurt Broner. Everybody else can so its like you said, his learning process needs to be accelerated. I don't care what he says, I wouldn't put him in there with any power dogs at this point. He needs a boxer puncher instead of an all out aggressive power dog. I would think Khan or Alexander. If he goes back to 140, I would like to see a Rios or Alvarado type fighter. If he can adjust and come through those guys then I would turn him loose and let the chips fall were they may.:bbb
