Holyfield was not intimidated by Tyson at all so the mental game didnt work with Evander . Mike Tyson didnt have the smarts with no corner to help him beat or outbox Evander H at this time of his career . Maybe a younger Tyson with a solid corner would beat Evander H. but not the dumb Tyson after Jail didn't have no solid trainer or corner at this time of his corer .

Solid win for Evander H. no excuses for Tyson

How about instead of assaulting Holyfield, and having to eat his blood and skin, he just retaliated with hard low blows... ???

Ok but I thought for sure I heard Holyfield say in a interview he beat Tyson because immediately after that he said "I can take what he got" Maybe he was referencing beating him in sparring or something. guess he just implied that he won.

Do think Tyson was seriously concussed by one of Holyfields headbutts in one of those mid rounds. He was starting to come on strong as well. But never seemed to fully recover afterwards. Similar to when Evander did the same to Bowe, and he cut his eye, he went on to lose too.

I'm getting old, so I'm not exactly sure. In the days before internet I used to read a lot of boxing books, I could have got this from anywhere.

However i'm certain there is a video on YouTube, a documentary about Tyson's early days in Catskill with Atlas, Rooney and D'Amato in which this notion is either stated outright or at least suggested.

It's a good documentary, well worth a look.

It goes back to their amateur days. Holyfeild was older and had a reputation, they also sparred and I believe Holyfield had the better of him. Holyfield was one of the few men who Tyson could not intimidate and Tyson surely felt that.

Google it. Pretty sure this stuff is documented somewhere.

At no point in his career was tyson mentally ready for Holyfield. Holyfield had his number like Vernon had Shane's number.

They were both faded, Holyfield was viewed as more damaged goods even than Tyson going into that fight

Huge fan of both guys but my gut tells me Holyfield would always have his number

Holyfield had tyson siked in the Olympic house and that's that. Knew tyson was mentally no match for him.

I'm a big fan of Tyson but I think it's very disingenuous to Holyfield when people say Tyson wasn't at his best. Well neither was Holyfield.

I think Holyfield beats basically any version of Tyson 7/10 times. Holyfield was a sound boxer with an iron chin. He wasn't afraid of Tyson and boxed his ears off in both fights. He broke Tyson mentally when he remained in front of him the entire fight without backing down. The first fight was a boxing clinic put on by Holyfield.

So was Tyson, so it evened itself out.

People wish to repaint history, however the reality is Tyson was still close to his best when Holyfield butchered him. The bully ended up getting bullied

It also provides an insight as to what today's elite heavyweights would have done to Tyson.

CHAMPS is on Netflix and is a great boxing documentary that have interviews with both Tyson and Holyfield and talks quit a bit about their fight, it's great.

Even though I think Holyfield have Tysons number, Lewis have them both, I still would of loved to see what Tyson could of been with D'Amato in his corner through his whole career. Young Tyson was just so much fun to watch!

"Prime" 86 Tyson was still deathly afraid of losing. Even the smallish 1990 version of Holy would have had a great shot of beating Mickey because he wasn't yet really battle tested and would have probably crumbled faster under pressure than the 1996 version.
