I look forward to this fight i really do...but Floyd just has so many ways to beat Cotto and Cotto while a very good fighter just is not on this type of level.

There are fights which i think will be tough for Floyd but this just is not one.

Well I don't wanna interupt the hot debate here but let me give an advice. Cotto should have Bogotazo at his gym and his corner. Maybe he can beat Floyd.:yep

I agree with the guy you critizisised there, or lets look at it another way, what does Cotto do better, or as effectively as Floyd.
    I cant see anything.
Floyd is fitter, sharper, faster, better defensively, punches harder, and Cotto is predictable at what he does.
I like Cotto, but Mayweather is the worst opponent for him. He might not get busted up like he did with Pac, but he's gonna get far more comprehensively schooled. I think Cotto will look ok for a round or 2, as Floyd usually takes a safety first look at his opponent, then Floyd will win everything else.
There were signs in the Ortiz fight that Floyd isnt what he was, but hes still the best around, by a long way. Nobody, but nobody assesess what is going on in a fight, and either presses home their advantage, or ajusts to take away there opponents.
I dont think Cotto ever has had, or will have, plan B.

I respect your opinion (and post overall) but Floyd will KO Cotto (and again I am a Coto fan). Floyd dosen't have power at 147 and 154 like he did at 130/135lbs, but his timing and accuracy is so precise it feels more power than it appears ( spoken from fightres such as Hatton, Mosley, Ortiz) ...

The main thing here is that Floyd, (though fighting this fight at 154), has relly growm into a full fledge welterweight. Even when he fough Ricky, he was still a small welterweight (even lighter than Ricky on fight night).... His last 2 fights, he has systematically broken his opponents down with intelligent pressure, while still maintaining his natural boxing skills (slipping, countering). He has changed his style completely if you ask me. He is past his physical prime and I really beleive he retired the first time to #1 let his body heal and #2 adapt his decline in physical abilities to focusing on technique and strategy. I think he stops all of his future opponents either by corner stoppage or TKO (maybe not a 1 punch KO). He has gained 100% confidence in his ability to bang with the big welters/Jr. middle weights and he will show you on May 5th.

When compared attribute to attribute Floyd seems to be the clear cut choice. One could argue that there is nothing Ortiz does better than Cotto, but this doesnt guarantee Miguel will have success in the same areas, yet is still viable. I think this will be closer than it seems on paper, especially when assessing both fighters last performance.

    I have a name :bart

I enjoyed reading that Bogo, really did. I'll be reading it again before the fight and comparing my own thoughts with it.

You're one of about 5 posters here in the General I'd sit down with and discuss Boxing technique and gameplans with. I may PM you in future to discuss up coming matchups, and gameplans.

    Again, brilliant read :good

This not the same cotto that fought mosley. Cotto's ring age accelerated when he was brutally beaten by margo and pac. Ever since those fights he looks slower, and his timing is off, and most importantly he doesn't have the mental edge anymore. He didn't look too good against foreman, was getting caught by mayorgas looping shots, and if it weren't for margos eye I think cotto was wearing down on the later rounds. This is not a prime cotto, but I think cotto will do good with the jab in the first 5 rounds, until floyd decides to pressure cotto and then cotto will start to fight backwards. The old cotto would keep coming at him like how he fought mosley. The cotto now if he gets caught he no longer has the mental edge to answer back, he usually retreats and reposition himself. He also looks a lot slower at 154. The catachweight with margo actually helped cotto with his speed. Hopefully this new coach does wonders for him. I did see glimpses of the prime cotto in his last fight, but then again he fought one eye margo. If cotto comes in with the jab and applies pressure and combos we might have a good fight.

:good Top all round breakdown & very much how i see it, i've always been of the mind that Cotto would triumph over floyd a few years back for all the above reasons. But has rightly been pointed out Miguel has to look the bizzier fighter here & not let the last minute/30 seconds of each round become a showcase for floyd. Definetly a fight that Cotto can win even though he's now a tad of the pace:smoke

I feel that any doubts harboured by Miguel will be redundent now that he is facing Floyd as he he must know that this is an incredible opportunity to absolutley erase all & any doubts by naysayers that he does not belong in the top echelon.

Agreed that he does appear a tad more ponderous at 154 which is obviously why Floyd chose him, but this is the moment in Miguels life to shine & sieze the day. Last one was the 1st margo fight & now he's got a 2nd opportunity. I doubt Miguel will crack this time, Floyd pressing him from ring centre could be a good thing as Floyds not going to march him down like margo or attack like a wasp from angles like pac. I'am sure that Miguel feels 110% confident that this could be thee one big momement to fence swords & showcase his superb boxing ability whilst pitted against likewise.

that was a prime cotto as well and he barely beat mosley

i expect floyd to savagely beat cotto who is washed up from the pac and marg beatings
