Ive watching his fight now and I think he looks good but he definitely has holes in hsi game he walks in without a jab, he is flat footed and he misses too much with his punches. I dont mean he throws alot and nmisses alot i mean he'll be off target by a foot or two. He throws a mean left hook though But he needs to be busier or people will side step and pot shot the **** out of him till he quits or his face looks like hamburger meat
I agree that he definitely has holes in his game, HOWEVER I think that people are way too tough on the kid. What is he, 21??? He still has developing to do of course!
JL CAstillo kicked Floyd's ass in the 1st fight and Castillo was just a "B" version of Chavez. The Chavez that fought Taylor,R.MAyweather,Rosario would have hurt Lil Floyd win or lose... Look what Castillo did to him in that 1st fight or did y'all forget?
He would do him worse than his uncle. Floyd would be another Meldrick Taylor after Chavez was done with him.
Chavez Jr. impressed me last night. He was poised all night long. Only negative thing, is he's too open at times and would get tagged by the elite. If he works on his defense, and a better jab he can be real good.
Anybody notice how big Chavez looked last night? He looked like the Hulk, compared to Sanchez. He had to be almost at Super Middleweight by the time the bell rang. When he matures fully, I can see him having to fight at MW or SMW. Last night he got away with getting hit, because Sanchez could not hurt him. He walked through some big punches, and they did not seem to effect him at all. Kid has potential, but last nights fight was not the step up opponent I was hoping for. Then again, he had no amateur experience, so he's probably being brought along perfectly. Gary Shaw can learn something from Arum, as to how to properly match a fighter in his earlier years.
Julio Cesar Chavez body work was alot better than Castillos and look at what Castillo did to Mayweather in their first fight. A prime Chavez would have KO'd Mayweather in 10 rounds. Chavez was levels above Castillo and so far he has been the most succesful against Mayweather and we all know how that first fight went. Everyone knows it was a robbery. Come on a comparison of Mayweather and Chavez. thats just stupid. Mayweather has built his career on fighting washed up fighters and fighters in weightclasses lower than him.
I agree with your comments except where you note that Sanchez was'nt the step up opponent you were hoping for. Sanchez has had an extended and defined amatuer career and his pro record of 20-1 with 15 ko's is nothing to sneeze at. Short of Jr. not throwing his jab, his offensive arsenal and mindset of a destroyer are really impressive. I do agree however that Chavez got lackadaisical with his defense and was getting hit more than he should have got hit. It partly had to do with the fact that Sanchez could'nt hurt Chavez and Chavez knew it.... .....but these are things that were pointed out to Chavez in his corner and they will use the film of the fight to illustrate to Chavez that the defensive non-chalance in his fight with Sanchez is something that he wont get away with at the championship level. Sanchez imo was just the right step up for Jrs. development. Chavez as I said got a little lackadaisical in about the 4th round and let Sanchez throw punches and circle him without much return fire by Chavez. ......Chavez may have at that point been a little spent and arm weary, looking to recover from that to return fire..... Its the right step and level of opponent for Chavez now because it becomes a learning experience for Chavez Jr.....he felt what its like to be arm weary in a fight and ride the storm. Each one of those moments a fighter learns from.....it the opponent is too vastly experienced and is a toughened competitor......Jr may not have had the know how to ride that storm. .....now you raise the bar a little higher so that Chavez Jr. continues to learn and hone his skills. Chavez Jr. mentioned two possible opponents yesterday.....Gomez I believe would be a great fight......but he also mentioned Carlos Baldomir, who I would wait till at least the end of 2008 to match him up against. Baldomir is the type of opponent that I noted earlier.....Chavez has the size and tools to beat him, but Baldomir is vastly experienced, has good skills, and is as tough a competitor is their is. I'd rather see Jr. face 3 or 4 say top 20-25 guys, not as experienced and toughened as Baldomir is......as he did vs Sanchez, Jr can learn alot from these guys before he attempts to get in the ring with someone like Baldomir! Btw.....at 154 lbs, Malignaggi is too small, he'd get run over by Chavez Jr. ....though if Malignaggi wants it, thats someone to consider say in the fall of 2008!
