Loma himself thinks he won the fight. I think he had the cleaner work but it wasn't even close to being enough. He threw like 80 punches in the first 7 rounds. There is only one fighter in recent memory who can do that and win.

Great win for Lopez! I thought Loma would beat him. Looking forward to seeing him against Haney, Davis or Garcia.

    Great analytical post.

TL/DR version: Lopez caused a glitch in the Matrix and exploited it repeatedly. Especially to the belly. Those shots had a lot to do with how this fight went, and why Lopez had more in the gas tank at the end than Loma despite Loma hardly throwing punches for more than half the fight.

In a rematch people are focusing how Loma will respond, but I think how Lopez changes will likely be more important.

I've said before Lopez could come on leaps and bounds, but he could also go totally off the rails or just about anywhere between. I don't have anywhere near enough a feel for him as a person to be anymore specific than that.

Loma could make all the right adjustments for the rematch, and come up against a more mature experienced Lopez, who at a younger age has far more ability to make adjustments. Loma could well do everything right in the rematch and still lose.

Equally plenty of fighters have had an awesome win, but never lived up to it. He's about the same age as Turpin when he beat Robinson.

Yeah definitely. I think both fighters have a lot of great strategies to explore and could win the rematch. So the more I think of it I would definitely be psyched for a rematch.

But yeah, this was the video I was thinking of specifically with the pawing the jab down. I didn't know about this technique until I watched it and man it made a world of difference for me against southpaws. Totally a great and under utilized technique.

Yes I am thinking of Abner Mares and Fernando Vargas. Both had great early career wins and then didn't go on to do much. I'm hoping Lopez goes on to be an ATG because that's what I like seeing in general.

Well, I am a southpaw and I like to do that when I've got lead-foot dominance. Obviously, it's much easier to get a lot of power in your jabs if you have your lead foot facing forward on the inside of their lead foot. That staright line of fire is perfect for that Kovalev-esque stamp-jab. I find it can't get that kinda power on it if I'm moving to my right, so pawing it like Floyd did is my go-to there.

" I had it 7-5, and I can see it 8-4 Lopez, that is not dominating someone."

True but here's the fact not mentioned: All the rounds Loma won he earned, he took it to Lopez whereas most of the rounds Lopez won Loma gave away from inactivity which isn't Lopez's fault that Loma was on his bicycle and didn't engage.

i was stunned by this fight. i did not think teofimo had it in him. i doubted his confidence, i doubted his skill level for this fight, i doubted his preparation, i doubted his heart. i really **** the bed on this one. i might not have written about all my doubts here, but i had them. now i got to give that boy his propers.
i never overestimated loma, ive always known he was beatable, i just didnt think teo would be the one. since lomas first fight at 135 i said he belonged at 130, where he could have reigned supreme under that aura that he lost saturday. now every challenge is gonna be tougher to overcome for him.
    but, thats boxing.
