Okay, i've been travelling a bit, and catching up on work so haven't had a chance to post properly until now.

First off, great win for Margarito, he fought a brilliant fight. His intangibles in this fight were absolutely unbelievable. I always knew his chin and stamina were great. I certainily under estimated though his ability to fight at both pace and intensity, and the level of his chin. He was never tired at any stage. He was never hurt at any stage. This despite throwing punches with force, and taking hard, clean punches from one of boxings best. The man is simply a genetic freak.

I thought Cotto fought very well through most of the fight. When he stayed in the centre of the ring, moved laterally and used his jab he looked fantastic. He seemed to abandon the jab though, and got caught up trying to beat Marg down with combination punching, sapping his own stamina. He kept backing straight up, and getting himself caught on the ropes with no room to move. The fight IMO was there for the taking, but due to poor tactical mistakes he lost. I could see him winning a rematch if he can correct this, however this will always be an extremely tough fight for him.

Obviously i disagreed with certain people on the forum before the fight. Whilst i commend them on picking the right winner of the fight, i still don't agree with great amounts of the analysis used to make these picks. Some of the comparisons and reasoning was just plain wrong. The childish insults and the way these posts were made was also unneccesary. However, credit where credit is due, I did underestimate Margarito, although i always knew it would be a tough fight. Some on here thought Margarito would be an easy beat, something i never considered. I expected a hard and gruelling fight, with Cotto using his superior boxing skills to break Marg down late. Although it seemed like that would happen, I overestimated the ring intelligence of Cotto.... He just didn't fight to the right gameplan.

Good post...And I agree on the fact I could also see Cotto winning a rematch. Although extremely tough like you said, I think he could if he changes his gameplan up a bit. I was just watching this fight on my comp. and man I still can't believe the shots Margo was taking.

I just love how it's COTTO'S FAULT that your analysis was wrong. Hysterical.

I had been waiting to see what you had to say.

Good to hear from ya mate.

I was a little bit gutted and suprised by the result It was a great fight though and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. If a rematch does happen Cotto can win but I think he has limitations that still might rear their head if he was to fight Magarito again.

the only one that thought the fight would be initially one sided was posters like ams who was more inlove with the fighter's skillset disregarding other areas of possibility.

I for one thought that it would be a competitive fight with cotto winning a close UD..there were many others who viewed the fight as 50/50 and it was evident at the number of vcash bets margarito had.

Anyway good post, i think he abandoned the jab when margarito's pressure got to him after getting hurt mid rounds

Cotto actually has a lot of ring intelligence. We saw that the first half of the fight....but Cotto's Pride outweighed his Intelligence. He should have stuck to the game plan to box, counter and give Marg angles throughout the fight.

However....I think Cotto's PRIDE and fighting spirit wouldn't let him simply "BOX" Marg who was looking for a "FIGHT". Cotto wanted to oblige Marg constant request for a brawl. When he would do that it looked as if Cotto got the better of the toe to toe battle.

Afterall we would see cotto rally off sharp accurate combos to Margs head and almost everytihng landed. But in those exchanges Marg would touch cotto with less flashy but more forceful offense of his own.

I just think that Cottos pride and spirit were hurt as well as discouraged a bit when Cotto hit Margo with everything he had and Marg would continue to walk him down. Eventually he got worn down both mentally and physically by Margo's relentless attack and constant abuse.

Cotto could out box Marg, but Marg wouldn't all Cotto to.

Margo wins the rematch quicker than the first time. He almost won it in the 7th the first fight. Next time it will be in the 7th fa-sho. I know another rematch he won't win, though.
