Since 2002 i have carefully watched miguel cotto angel cotto.since then he has also been my favorite fighter while i am puerto rican and that adds on to it hes represented our boxing history well. while he lost to margarito and now pacquiao he still is my favorite n as true fan i will stand beside him thru any win any loss.
I have seen every single fight of his at least twice if not more(gotta love youtube)even in the olympics even his pro debut fight where he looked blazing fast calm collective but fierce.NOW THIS IS MY OPINION,at 140 to me he was a better fighter then at 147.only thing he was missing was he had a shaky chin because he really was having trouble making weight.he was so explosive and strong accurate and fast and body shots was like none other.
At 147 to me wat made him better was his chin he could take shots from welters way better and eat them.he became more of a boxer and he developed this jab that is NASTY and fast n accurate.BUT like ive said ive seen all fights more then once and my cotto just doesnt throw the body shots or exchange like he use 2.I believe his peak performance was the mosley fight, and the first 6rounds of the margarito fight.
After the Margarito fight my idol was not the same idc what he or anyone else thinks. It was evident in the clottey fight at 140 if he had someone on the ropes it was a wrap!the clottey fight he would throw and just stop same with pacquiao fight it seemed like he was scared to exchange. Pacquiao took his confidence all away i wanted to cry when first got dropped and the look he had in his eyes was just so sad.
A man doesnt get 10 tattoos at theage of 28 for no reason he said it himself he needed to find himself after the margarito fight and the tats was a psychological thing. His inexperienced corner hurt him rather then help him no matter how good he felt with joe he was better off with his uncle.
1 thing that hasnt changed is his heart and courage as this is what made him so good to watch as u no cotto can be beat but always found a way to win he is a warrior no doubt about it.after the margarito fight the way his face looks after fights is just hurtful to the eyes to watch...his face now gets like gattis face(rip) after fights and it sux we will never know if margarito damaged him legally illegally.
As i would LOVE to watch cotto fight on and i wouldbuy the ppv or attend if i could i much rather see him retire.at the age of29 he has taken so much punishment i dont want my dude ending up with slurred speech or so on he is a millionare owns several gas stations n a casino in pr it sux he never made it to the big big stage as he could have before.can he come bak n be a world champion? of course top rank will make sure of that before 2011.will heever b on da big stage again fighting for a p4p status n history? i dnt think so

what do you guys think? and congrats to manny his performance n ability to handle cottos punches was jus unreal

Cotto is a true warrior and the way he took his loss to pac was very humble and respectful. I like cotto and im glad he said he is goin to keep fightin i just hope that he protects himself a little better as he does take a lot of damage and i hope that he comes back strong.

It was interesting reading Roach's comments in regards to Cotto. He feels that he regressed as he grew older. Roach had a great game plan, they saw that Cotto cocks his left hook and they put that left hook/uppercut to catch him.

I still like Cotto, he's one hell of a fighter and very exciting.

good post. I also felt there were moments in the clottey fight as well as the pacquiao fight when he had them on the ropes and thought twice beofre throwing punches when he had people there it was some nasty body blows. Now he doesnt commit to much to the body and throws more arm punches.

Still an exciting fighter and humble guy but i feel he will never be the same after the Margarito and Pacquiao beatings. Cottos corner should have thrown in the towel after the 9th round.

Yeah some true facts in that post... but fighters change with time (think about W. Klitschko, no more uppercuts on the inside).

Cotto needs a world call trainer and yes, he must protect himself better

As a true fan, you live and die with your fighter. Nothing to be ashamed regarding Saturday's fight, Pacquiao was just a beast.

Cotto can still fight and can destroy Hatton or JMM.

But seriously paragraphs, commas and periods are your friend.

As a boxing fan, there's almost nothing worse than seeing your favorite fighter lose, let alone lose like that. Thanks for posting all that. I agree strongly with the bolded part of your post. It's possible to understand that Cotto has lost a little bit while also seeing that Manny's performance was amazing, and that he beats any version of Cotto 9 times out of 10. But I definitely didn't see the Cotto who beat Shane in there last weekend either.

Keep your head up, Cotto is an amazingly resilient guy, and apparently, he isn't done yet. There may be some glory left for him out there, but if he retires tomorrow, be very proud of what he has already done.
