YES I KNOW THEY ARE NOT BROTHERS...its from Scarface. Now that that is out of the way.... Juan Diaz impressed the **** outta me tonight. He is a fantastic pressure fighter, but we all knew that. What shocked me was his defense. Which is PHENOMINAL! His head movement and reflexes are great. His shell defense is tight and with his reflexes he blocks to the body, as well as the head equally...which defies logic with his offensive style. Defensively he is top notch....Julio is a normally an accurate puncher and good boxer...and he landed 20% of about 800 punches.....that is just unbelievable. He is also great at making a fighter fight HIS fight. As much as Julio tried to make that a boxing match (for about the first 30 secs of each round), Juan's constant pressure and surpisingly great footwork kept him in his comfort zone. Not an easy thing to do....and lets not forget Julio is a GOOD FIGHTER!!! Another thing I noticed (but knew already) was the way Juan attacks from just about every angle possible. His offensive arsenal is just tremendous. His body work, his blisteringly fast combos, his accuracy....just a great, great fighter. HELL he even showed he got a great jab (if he ever learns to use it more...I mean....WOW!). And smart as hell in there as well....never allowing himself to get close to the ropes....everytime Julio switched southpaw, Juan stuck the jab over his defense....etc. The kid just ****in impressed the absolute **** outta me. Great fighter...and still VERY YOUNG!!! JUAN DIAZ FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!
Julio got his ass whooped. From round 1 until the stoppage. He did not win one round. Baby bull has freakish stamina as he can punch all night and not get tired. He was not even winded. He took small breaks but damnnnnnnnnnn. He is hard to beat.
Agreed... I'm very impressed with this kid. If he can continue to get better and better (which is likely considering his age), he can make a name for himself as the top lightweight of this generation.
If you watch the Freitas fight...and this one....his jab got expotentially better. Now if he can just trust in it a little bit, he can use it to get in, while reducing what he takes on the way there. This kid has the potential to be a MONSTER!
Good observation - he showed a very good jab tonight, but if he uses it more, he will be even more effective. I don't know - it may be premature. But with all of the names at 130 and 135 that Diaz could fight...he could really establish quite a legacy at 135.
He impressed and stepped up, but honestly, he could have shown us more, especially defensively, that needs some work. I could easily pick some guys over him. He didn't impress me in the way of 'this guy will OWN' like some do. Julio was not quite a top tier class of fighter IMO, had a lot of close events with mediocre guys and never really showed great durability. I picked Juan to do this very thing, but I felt his defence was definitley an issue, showed a better defence vs. Freitas, who's also of a better class than Julio.
I still stand by that if Nate Campbell doesn't get old overnight, that he'll be victorious in this one.:yep
