Here's my thoughts on Toney-Rahman II, for those who it might interest. Y'all know I'm a big fan of Toney, but I'm trying to be as objective as possible here.

There's no question that it was a disappointing fight with a controversial outcome. Also there's no doubt that Rahmans cut was caused by the accidental headbutt in the 3rd round, and the referee didn't even call that accidental headbutt, like he should have.

The first two rounds were close and could have gone either way, but when Toney was getting warmed up in the 3rd round and stunned Rahman with that right hand at the end of the 3rd, it seemed to me that Rahman got cold feet and looked for a way out. Rahman probably tought that Toney was totally shot, but when he realized that this wasn't the case he didn't want to continue, and the cut was a welcome occasion to get out of the fight. He tried to influence the doctor to stop it, and the doctor didn't even examinate the cut - which got closed by Rahmans corner meanwhile! I mean the cut was closed and wasn't bleeding anymore, a true fighter would have given it at least 1 more round and try to KO his opponent, that's what Toney would have done (and what he has done against Tim Littles in 1994), but no, Rahman wanted a no-contest - what a shame. The doctor ****ed up too, the cut was closed, the blood was out of Rahmans eye, he should have examined it at least. But he advised to stop the fight simply because Rahman said he couldn't see anymore. That's the doctors decision to take, not the fighters. And if Rahman wasn't able to see for some other reason than the cut (which was closed and not bleeding anymore) it'd been a TKO decision for Toney anyway. Also Rahman seemed very ok right after the decision against him was announced shortly after (because the cut was closed and wasn't troubling his sight anymore), bitching about not getting a no-contest... In this regard it's only fair to give Toney the win, there may have been procedural lapses (both the doctor and the referee acted unprofessionaly), but the TKO decision in Toneys favour was right, the commission saw it the right way.

As for Toney, well he wasn't able to show us much, but at least he proved that he wasn't shot. He was mobile and slipping and ducking most of Rahmans punches, he was just doing his thing. There's no doubt that this is not the Toney from 2003 anymore, but he still got something left, and in nowadays weak HW-division that's enough to be competitive with most of the top ten HWs. He didn't get hurt at all in this fight, so he should stay in the gym now and try to get another fight as soon as possible, and then take it from there. There was talk about Don King organizing a WBA tournament involving Kali Meehan, Sergei Lyakhovich, Andre Golota and Hasim Rahman, why not give Toney Rahmans slot and see how he does?

Please post your thoughts about this, they do interest me. Thanks!

I agree 100%! It should have been a no-contest but it was obvious that Rahman was looking for a way out, in my opinion.

The Doctor did look at the cut. He stated that he was OK. One of Rahman corner men said to the doc" it's to the bone" in an effort to try to get it stopped. The doctor said no he is ok. Rahman then complained he could'nt see right hands and that his vision was blurry and he could not see. Doc stopped it.

    Rock bitched out.

Toney did win the 3rd round after dropping the 1st two rounds. The ending was controversial and warrants a rematch. Should be NC IMO.

Toney was on his way to victory, no question.

Rock looked to get out of the fight.

    Toney should be the victor.

    :deal ^^^

Thing's were not going his way, The Butt made thing's worse...
I'm sure Rock was looking past this fight and did not want the cut to get worse and risk alot of time off.
His mistake, Rock looked for a way out. he got it. T.K.O.

I hate to say it, but I actually agree with this. Toney looked fairly sharp and not shot. He's back in the mix at heavyweight. The names you mentioned are all good ones, and frankly, Toney can beat any of those guys at this stage with his slickness. Amazing to think after the roller coaster ride at heavyweight that he's still a contender.

Did you see the training video??:

Toney looks as good here as he has in years.

Rahman is a ***** and was looking for a way out. However, the point is that had Rahman known that a doctor's stoppage would be a TKO loss for him (it should not have been), he would have continued fighting.

BTW Toney Fans - What's the point of having rules if you're not going to enforce them?

Yes, I saw the video on **xboxing, and although it is heavily edited, I have to say that Toney looks like a fat Pernell Whitaker at moments ;)

    Thanks man!

Rahman got what he deserved, he didn't want to continue... Though I have a feeling this could get overturned in the near future.

what do you mean the cut "closed" it looked pretty open to me. im surethe second toney touched it, it would be streaming blood again. that was a nasty gash. i mean ive seen worse but im sure it would have gotten a lot worse as the fight wore on

also ive never had blood run into my eye but whos to say it didnt and it didnt make his vision blurry? even if it was just a little

THIS FIGHT WILL BE OVER TURNED. remember the mora johnson fight? it was an accidental injury after the sixth. they took away moras TKO and changed it to a NC. it should have been a Technical Decision because it was an accident after 4. it did take 5 months to over rule.

i feel rahmans case is a little more open and shut

There is no doubt that it was controversial; but Toney started really getting Rahman so he found a way out. Telling the doctor you cant see and that you won't fight with one eye is quitting. TKO Toney. Many fighters fight with cuts even worse then that. What a black eye to the heavyweight division. ****ing Rahman.
