Here's how I would rank the top 10 greatest Mexican fighters. 1. Chavez 2. Saldivar 3. Olivares 4. Sanchez 5. Zarate 6. Canto 7. Marquez 8. Lopez 9. Morales 10. Barrera
Great list.....could i make a case for Marquez moving up to #5? Based on what he accomplished in multiple weight divisions .( I'm a Marquez fan so I'm probably biased)
Marquez was never as dominant as Zarate and Canto were in their primes, hence why I ranked him behind them. But sure, a case can be made that he's top 5.
Mine 1. Chavez 2. Olivares 3. Zarate 4. Lopez 5. Sanchez 6. Barrera 7. Morales 8. Marquez 9. Saldivar 10. Canto
I'm the type that favors overall body of work more than single wins. If I'm being honest about JM Marquez, I see him as an excellent fighter who had a better fighter's number. It happens. Pac was better than Marquez, but Marquez had the style to give him Hell. Outside of Pac, Marquez was never a guy who I would consider quite as good P4P as someone like Zarate or Canto. Lopez was better P4P than Marquez as well, and despite his lack of a great resume, I might actually rank Lopez ahead of Marquez as well.
So if body of work is your qualifier, shouldn’t Zarate be more around 10? His resume is paper thin both at the top and all the way through.
Not to change the subject, but I have to in this case. This coming from a Chandler fan???? Zarate's bantam resume blows Chandler's away. Chandler gets knocked cold by Zamora, to start.
That’s fine if you believe that, although a cursory glance will tell you that chandler had a better record against rated opposition as well as in title fights, not to mention he was the ring champ for 4 years to Zarate’s 0.... but not interested in debating Zarate vs Chandler, right now....perhaps another thread lol. Anyway I think top level, longevity and consistency JMM has this hand down over Zarate
My list and order changes a lot between 5-10 whereas my personal top 4 is set in stone. 1. Chavez 2. Olivares 3. Marquez 4. Sanchez — 5. Barrera 6. Morales 7. Saldivar 8. Lopez 9. Zarate 10. Canto I’m consistent with my ranking of Barrera over Morales and just one place apart but am inconsistent with Lopez and Saldivar as I’ve put either one at #5
I can't for the life of me see how Morales and MAB are getting ranked over Saldivar, when Saldivar had one of the best resumes in featherweight history, and was just a better fighter than Marco and Erik in general.
Canto dominated a very good flyweight class, and Zarate dominated a solid bantam class. It counts for more than you're admitting.
