Having nothing to do with accomplishment or resume, having only to do with skill, talent and intangibles - 1. Cristian Mijares - And by an absolute mile, he'd beat anyone 118 and under and there is some SERIOUS talent down here . 2. Joe Calzaghe 3. Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Sorry, Floyd is one of the best, but H2H currently he's not what he was at 130-135, far from unbeatable and he's going to lose to several WW's if he fights them. Floyd does indeed have weaknesses that some don't realise. 4. Joan Guzman 5. Miguel Cotto 6. Ivan Calderon 7. Chad Dawson 8. Manny Pacquaio - Suprised he's this low? He's great, but very beatable by several at 130-135. 9. Mikkel Kessler 10. Juan Diaz What do you think of my list guys?
Nice list I like the high rating of Guzman. You may want to consider Haye, JMM, Linares. Bare in mind many had Mosley beating Cotto. Paul Williams looks very impressive in terms of ability Linares at FW may become truly great
He's good, but not THAT good. Gamboa at FW looks more likely to become a great even as a prospect when comparing similiar opposition, Gamboa has already crushed similiar or better opposition than Linares did prior to Linares' last fight, which was his first step up in comp. Can't list Gamboa until he thrashes a top 10 though. Williams is B level in the end, Cintron is going to crush him. JMM is always a good pick, I just feel he's getting older. Haye is too flawed, even though I do like him a lot.
Good list Amsterdam, me and you have agreed with eachother on a lot of points during the last 6 months. However Calzaghe should be number 1. Im one of the few with you on Mijares ability though, but I think he should fight Munoz rather soon as a prover. Then move up.
Nah, he can make 115 easy, clear the division out if he can get them to fight him and then move up. If he cleared it, it would mean beating Montiel, Munoz & Kirilov. That's P4P top 3 material alone, if he did anything at the division up and continued winning like I believe he can, he'd be the #1 and that'd be without a doubt. The best part is that all of that wouldn't even be that difficult for him if he always sticks to fighting his fight, the kid is THAT damn good. Imagine if Mijares was a 147 pounder with the attributes and skill he has correlated to 147, you think Mayweather would fight that guy?:yep Also, Mijares is 26, Joe is 35, have to be fair on age.
I'm indifferent to him, but in all reality, he's not on the level of any of those guys that I listed, Hatton is very beatable, these guys are plain awesome.
I rate Kessler but he's got it to prove again after the Calzaghe fight and Dawson is good but unproven. Both would be in my Top 20, neither would be in my Top 10. And no Hatton or Mayweather? Or was that the question you were fishing for?
Why so much love for Mijares? He beat a crude fighter in Arce; what else has he done? He drawed with Maldonado, who got crushed by Darchinyan and soon to be by Nonito Donaire as well... How do you think Mijares/Donaire plays out?
Think about it this way, Floyd and Mijares are the same weight, who wins? Floyd isn't going to like the workrate, tight guard and extremely fast, accurate jab that Mijares throws, nor his accuracy in handspeed. The jab is going to trump Floyd's rythym and Mijares off the backfoot is surprisingly just as good as going forward. Mijares would beat Floyd if they were in the same weight class.
Donaire is going to get killed in there vs. Mijares. Didn't you see Vic coming on a little bit before the KO? Landing some jabs and straight lefts and picking up the pressure. Donaire needs to develop more, this is a mismatch. Mijares would tattoo him, and also, Mijares should have had the win vs. Maldonado, do you know how many bad decisions happen in the lower weight divisions which get less coverage?:yep
Mayweather's there at no. 3, I suppose you expected him to be my no. 1 best by ability/skill/intangibles as a combination, but this is not the case, he's beatable at 147. Hatton, again, is extremely overrated and not on the level of these guys.
