1. Willie Pep 2. Sandy Saddler 3. Salvador Sanchez 4. Henry Armstrong 5. Alexis Arguello 6. Vincente Saldivar 7. Johnny Dundee 8. Jim Driscoll 9. Abe Attell 10. Marco Antonio Barrera * I do think Manny Pacquaio has a case for top 10 h2h since he took apart a prime MAB in 11 one sided rounds at 126, and Nearly beat Marquez if not for a judge ruling a round 10-6 round, 10-7.
Or got schooled by Marquez after the first round? Haha sorry im just being argumentative. Your list has a lot of the right names in there, its just opinion on how you arrange them, but not bad. I personally wouldnt have Barrera in there, im a massive fan and all, but i just don't see his campaign there as too long, and only credit him with one good win over Hamed, i had him losing against Morales there and then destroyed by Pacquiao. I would have Eusebio Pedroza in there, i understand he has a lot of losses, but for me he was a great featherweigh, top ten material, but its all just opinion and subjective as you know.
He beat a great prime fighter in 35-0 Nasseem Hamed and beat a great prime fighter in 41-0 Eric Morrales....Two top wins at 126lb, better wins than most have on the list, I think he is becoming quite overrated. People the other day were calling for him to beat Willie Pep and Sandy Saddler for crying out Loud. Pedroza was a good not great champion....He never unified the title vs Sanchez(lucky for him he would have got outclassed), Never beat a great fighter near there prime, struggled with some non great opponents(taylor, Lockridge, Laporte), lost very badly to Mcguien, and got knocked out by the best fighter he ever faced(alfonso zamora)
Wow SQ i was being quite nice there complimenting your post and only saying that the arrangement of a list of good names is one's opinion. I didn't expect you to come back at me like that, replying to certain hand picked words (not even sections) of my post and attempting to dissect it. You aren't kidding anyone there, my balanced post is still sitting above for the board to see. I really don't know what you are trying to achieve there. Sorry for making my original post, next time i'll just do what you do, or mayube i won't bother.
Anyone familiar with a Tom Johnson? He was a featherweight champ from ~93-97 or something. Had 11 successful title defenses. He trains guys at my gym so I'm curious about him. Thanks
Yeah Boom Boom is largely remembered for his fight with Naz but he was past his prime then. He was one of the best featherweights of his era and beat Manuel Medina twice, lucky you, you spoke to him?
You need to chill out. I appreciate the compliments, but you also said certain things that left an opening for being debated which is why I jumped on it. If you dont want to debate, then dont post it. You told me you think Pedroza should be in there, I answered back why I think he is overrated. If you disagree with me, then post a reply.
Yeah, he's a cool dude. Seemed excited to be recognized. I was embarrassed to not know anything about him and wanted to know if anyone had a question for him. He's training some guys here and still looks in pretty good shape.
Pedroza would give Pep an ass-whooping. That said, Pep is still arguably the #1 FW of all time. Saddler is at the lower end of the top 10 IMO. He's overrated. There's no way around it anymore In no order, here's my top 10 based on accomplishments and era by era comparisons: Abe Attell Young Griffo George Dixon Willie Pep Sandy Saddler Johnny Kilbane Freddie Miller Jim Driscoll Vicente Saldivar Salvador Sanchez
Okay then we shall do this, and please don't ever make out like i need to chill out or that i'm not game for a proper debate. I said in my first post, and you know this, that i don't think Barrera's campaign at the weight is lengthy enough to merit a top ten placement considering that in my personal opinion he only has one top win, over Hamed. I thought he lost to Morales and clearly he did to Pacquiao, so in my opinion there is nothing else to qualify him for the spot. Now if from an unbiased point of view you thought he beat Morales then you can take a differnt standpoint, we all are entitled to out opinions. On the subject of Pedroza i even said that he had a lot of losses so one could take the opinion that he doesn't deserve the spot, but if one understands the subjectiveness of what is greatness it is pretty clear over the spread of his campaign at 126 pounds that in an opinionated light he did more than enough to earn placement. I really don't want to get into specifics on his career, i really do think you knw what he did in it. And him 'becoming overrated' i don't think holds too much water with me because this has always been my standpoint with him in regards to his legacy at 126 pounds as a fighter. I justt hought it was silly how you highlighted words in my post that i had already given a flipside argument to and then debated them, i was simply putting forth suggestions and there was no need to even shoot them down as i had already given the 'maybe not because of this' reasoning. It really did come across as pointless to e honest. Mine was just a food for thought type post as an offer of consideration.
Yeah i never saw Attell at the top of a list before but i know he was a man who fought everyone. What's your thoughts on Driscoll? Not a deep enough reusme? Gett his, i actually watched him on youtube a while back and was impressed with what i saw, my friend was laughing his ass off at me, but i was serious, he's schooling his opponent wether the tecnhique was what you like or not!
Oh sorry i never saw Driscoll was in your list Pea, i asked because i thought you had left him out sorry.
The list was in no order, as I stated first and foremost. Anyways, I've seen the same footage of Driscoll. I was indeed pleasantly surprised. He seemed to have real skills, and an excellent right hand. I'll probably watch it a bit closer now.
Oh, forgive me its later over this side of the pond. Yeah i thought he was absolutely schooling this guy on that footage.
Pedroza would be lucky to win 4 out of 15 rounds vs Pep. Pedroza couldnt even beat Bernard Taylor who ran circles around him! I watched that fight the other night...Dear God! Sanchez would have smoked pedroza
