I take it this isn't p4p. On a p4p basis Sam Langford should be #1 imo. Ketchel has to be on there aswell.
And why not?? In his hey day it was often for the Boston Strong boy to down a man with one or 2 punchs. Mostly out cold.
this is a "great/genuine-list"-everyone on this list would be on most-guys top 10-heavyweight-bigest-punchers! i would however just change some of your listings, here is how i rate them: 1-earnie shavers. 2-george foreman. 3-sonny liston. 4-joe louis. 5-jack dempsey. 6-mike tyson. 7-rocky marciano. 8-david tua.
Thisi is really a difficult one. But I think that just about all of them, except for Foreman and Shavers and maybe someone else, have beeen in their prime in the last 20 years or so. No one I've ever seen at HW rivals Louis for effective, devastating precision punching, but of course the roided up behemots of the last decades are harder punchers than the great champions of the past. Sanders was laughed off, but as mediocre as he is in comparison he carried a ridicolous punch. Maybe not top 10, but probably not miles from it. His left was definitely more powerful than Baer's right IMO.
in case you didnt get it, he said only heavyweights, not p4p punchers. and yes shavers, foreman and tua were arguably the hardest punchers in boxing... langford should also be in a top ten list, he had the second highest ko's behind archie moore. also who ever he fought said they had never been hit anything like it. sam was the earnie shavers of his day! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mjFA-XG5Oio tua's power on display http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PpNrzvCBWkc&feature=related shavers one punch power 2.15. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kpEuGaRp9l8 foreman destroys frazier.
My take I believe that Earnie Shavers is probably the hardest punching heavyweight of all time in terms of raw power. Of the lineal heavyweight champions I believe that Max Baer is the hardest hitter. Oponents of both these men decades apart described being hit by them as like having red hot needles stabbed into the back of your neck. If we are talking about punching effectivness as oposed to raw power then Joe Louis is the daddy. 1. Joe Louis 2. Jack Dempsey 3. Mike Tyson 4. Sam Langford 5. Sonny Liston
