Nope. Johnson was a great defensive heavyweight and has a great resume. Liston is on there based on wins and his H2H ability. Tyson would've beat Holy prime for prime in my opinion despite the resume.
Good list, personally I'd probably put Lewis a little higher and Marciano a little lower but othersie, not too bad at all. LA/Canada must put you pretty close to my neck of the woods, Vancouver.
Anyone who doesn't have Foreman in the top 10 is just silly. He wasn't a pretty and slick boxer but he was a natural brawler and he was maybe the strongest man to fight in the ring. "He won an Olympic Gold Medal after boxing only 1.5 years and with only 20 amateur fights going into the Olympics. That is just unbelievable, in some ways his most notable achievement. He destroyed an undefeated heavyweight champion who was considered the best heavyweight in the world at the time, crushed him in only 2 rounds. George came back and won the lineal heavyweight title 20 years after losing it. That is just mind boggling. No one and I mean no one else could do that, not Jack Johnson, not Jack Dempsey, not Joe Louis, not Rocky Marciano, and not Muhammad Ali. Nobody."
Muhummad Ali Joe Louis Larry Holmes Rocky Marciano Evander Holyfield Mike Tyson Joe Frazier Lennox Lewis Jack Johnson Sonny Liston
The more I think about tysons career the higher up he is. Its hard for me determining between Holfield, Tyson, and Lennox Lewis. I rate them in different order at times.
Hard to go wrong cleaning out the division. He was still at it even post-Douglas. Holyfield was defending against Foreman while Tyson was beating up the highest rated (aside from the two obviously) and most dangerous fighter in the division, twice in four months no less. He essentially did what Marciano did, though he was less consistent over the haul and was bested in the ring, unlike Rocky. I rate him lower, as you did.
That's a quote from Monte D. Cox who is a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame I believe and he has his own website that has some pretty good articles.
Personally not a fan of his opinions and writings but I respect the efforts he puts into his lists and skill rankings chart. Certainly agree with him on his Foreman quote, though.
