Yea , i get you, i did sort of concede in my original post though that Mosley was the only one i was expecting most criticism on. I just like him at the weight, a personal pick if you will, and h2h does get him a very good ranking i believe, borderline top 10?? You certainly have a good point though
Well it came down to it and both were at their best Mosley beat Delahoya and would have done at 135 too. Mosley deserves to be above Oscar because of this even if the fight was at 147. Talking competition is splitting hairs
The jab didnt land anyway, re-watch the first 6 rounds, Delahoya was never on top, he jabbed and threw flurries but missed nearly everything How can he have the best boxing skills of the 90s when he got outboxed by Whitaker, Ike Quartey, Sturm, Hopkins, Mosley, Mayweather? His head movement, defense, timing were lacking when next to the very best
Competition is vital, but there comp is close outside of each other and the best they fought was each other, Mosley has the 2 Ws, and I think the second fight is a close call, I scored it to Delahoya once and Mosley second time Mosley is a hard 1 to rank in terms of anything because of the way his career went after Delahoya Mosley career wise is this generations Duran: 1. Dominant at lightweight (unlike Duran names are missing) 2. Jumps 2 divisions to beat top P4P Welterweight no1 (misses Tyszu the way Duran missed Pryor) 3. Immediately followed by 2 Embarassing defeats (exposed style floors?) 4. Resurgance against Hoya 5. 2 Defeats against a bigger man(exposed style floors?) 6. Mini resurgance against Vargas/Collazo 7. Fights P4P Cotto at 35 and arguably wins (I had him winning)
Interesting, true but on a lesser scale i must say. Especially point number 4. I thought that was an awful decision personally, i understand the fight looks closer secnd time around, but Oscar won that imo, and the decision wasnt good.
Mosley did land the better shots, Delahoya flurried more and threw more. Quality v Quantity. I probably could do with watching it a third time to give my final verdict but its not a fight I want to watch 3 times More ringsiders gave it to Mosley than Delahoya if that means anything
Molina was a little more than two years older, and, while not at his absolute best, was hardly shot. He'd go on, in his next fight, to give Roberto Garcia a damned tough fight in a crack at the 130lb title. If anything, Molina was probably more acclimatised to fighting at 135lbs when he fought SSM than he was when he fought DLH. So no...age wasn't as much of a factor as you'd like to believe. Ruelas was terribly flawed, and certainly wasn't going to be a dominant champion, evenm if DLH had never fought him. Like I said before...DLH's best win comes against Hernandez.
1. Joe Gans 2. Roberto Duran 3. Benny Leonard 4. Henry Armstrong 5. Barney Ross 6. Tony Canzonerri 7. Purnel Whitaker 8. Dave Holly 9. Jack Blackburn 10. Ike Williams
I get the quallity/quantity thing, but it really goes on who won more rounds than the other, and i just had it for Oscar, was so shocked when the decision was announced. I might watch it again, like you would be though, i'll be reluctant to do so!! Haha
nice list. how can holly be rated over blackburn when blackburn clearly got the better of there series? I have newspaper articles emailed to me of 3 of there fights all which thought blackburn won. Blackburn was more avoided than holly was, and beat just as good competition. H2h, Blackburn with his size, jab, punching skills would be a nightmare for most lightweights in history. Gans sure as hell never wanted to give a more experienced blackburn a shot at his title.
While Blackburn got the better of Holly head to head I still like Hollys overall body of work better. Perhaps if Blakburn had kept himself out of jail he would have ended up higher than Holly.
I was shocked when the decision was anounced too, I went to the bathroom came back and couldnt believe Oscar didnt get it, but I was pissed and when I watched without the biased commentary I changed my mind, but I've only watched it twice
